| my friend is trading me a mac pro for something. Not sure if i'll like it. but if im going to upgrade to 4 gb of ram whats the best way to do that? you guys said to buy it online? |

Yep, when you find out the exact model name, just go to crucial and use their RAM selector to see what type of RAM it uses.
Sometimes their prices are good, sometimes they are a bit high, so you can look around.

You can add RAM in pairs... there are like 8 slots in that machine I think. You'll have to read the manual.

| i might be forced to sell it and get the imac 24"......but it can only hold 3 gb of ram? anyone know if this will make a big difference? i was hopeing for 4+ gb of ram with the macpro |

I only have 1 gig of RAM, 2 is plenty unless you are doing some ridiculous things.
Going from 2-3 in the iMac 24" is very expensive, so most people just stick with 2gigs (it uses laptop ram, which is more costly).

| well i do pretty reiculous things hehe...i want the max ram..3 gb. If i get 1 gb in it cant i just throw in another 2gb stick? |

On the iMac? No... it's got 2 ram slots, and they are occupied with 2 512MB SO DIMMS, you'd need to rip those two out and buy a 1 and a 2 gig DIMM.
Just what are you doing that really requires 3 gigs of RAM? I mean seriously, you DON'T need more than 2 gigs for anything audio related. EVER.

well ive used systems with 4 gb and it was great....especially if editing in wavelab or something........long files...
i can sometimes use tons and tons of audio tracks for more pop music....the ram comes in handy with that.......especially if using Nexus or something |

| ok so i got a 24" core 2 duo imac...... 2.33 ghz. I went to the crucial site and they dont have ram for my computer. only the 2.16 and lower for some reason.........anyone have any ideas? i must have 3 ghz ram |
