Honestly, I can understand why the Muslims are fed up. I mean I think were all heard of the term, "Lazy Mexicans"
|
I have called my Mexican friends "lazy Mexicans," and they've called me worse, and we drink, we smoke, we laugh, and we're friends.
Arabs will learn how to laugh this off soon, and differentiate between the minority that is truly racist, and the majority that is just having a go at them as, well, initiation. |

Your generation's poet is also a big Chomsky fan btw. Infact, RATM are know to have handed out his books and writings which they carry in their tour buses for distribution. I still have a copy of Zach de la Rocha/Tom Morello interviewing Noam Chomsky ;). |

I know this Man!!!
Its funny though, cause its off topic, but my oldest, 13 years old, has really got into RATM, when she came down for a visit, we got into a big disscusion about them. I asked her, "DO YOU REALLY HEAR" what they are saying. Her answer made me proud!! She told me that RATM words and music means more today than ever!

I get called a "wap" and a "dego" and to be honest, it used to hurt. Now, I don't give a rat's ass. The more reaction you give, the more it's used as a weapon.
Also, the more you dig, the more you can "find" that is racist. I'm Italian, but I'm not protesting Super Mario Brothers, or that Olive Garden is a defamation of real Italian cuisine. Everything can be found offensive in one way or another to someone. If we want to have a right to free speech, people are going to be offended from time to time.
I'm not trying to say that the world views of Italians are anywhere close to the misconceptions of Muslims. What I am trying to say is everyone is offended, and if you want to change stereotypes, the most effective long-term solution is to do things to change those stereotypes from within. Forced censorship only draws more attention to the stereotype. |

I didn't know you were Italian paisan :p. You're right about that. But it doesn't help when the stereo type is based on an exagerated representation of a tiny minority. |

The worst part is when people say it because they think it's funny.
Eh...oh well. And yeah, my family is Italian. I'll actually be back there in June. Then they'll call me a yank. :D |

Ya, but you can tell a funny from a serious, and when me and my buds get together, we are always refering to each other by race, "nigga Please", "you going to be Mexican your whole life", "Kike", "cracker", "wop", "chink", "o'fey" "uncle tom", "wet" and "camel jocky". the reson is becuase we are one, but let someone else say it,,,, "I wish a nigga would say that" attitude comes out of me and its "Go Time" lol
buzzed in effect....... |

I don't really find it amusing. I think it's quite juvenile actually. It only reinforces the fact that you're paying too much attention to someone being a different ethnicity, and still find it a odd/weird/whatever enough that you have to verbalize it through immature little jokes. You don't have to agree with me, but that the way I feel about it. Which is why I actually find it a bit irritating when people do it, wheather they're referring to me or someone else. |

One day you'll realize that when someone is comfortable enough to refer to his/her friends that way, and his/her friends are comfortable with that someone referring to them that way, they are in fact paying a lot less attention to ethnicity than you.
I know nothing about you than what I've read in the Pol debate forum in the last few weeks. But I'm willing to bet everything I own that you have not lived in Texas your whole life. Same goes for North America. When did you migrate? |
