not AS MUCH the eastside, i'll give you that much... |
as yuppie as the east is, i still think it's rather ghetto in certain parts like over by 86th and lex or over by york in the 70s where as on the west less high-rises and a bit cleaner, not as much foot traffic. sometimes lex can get dumb crowded and the sidewalks tend to be narrower compared to the west.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I wasn't really thinking Manhattan because I didn't want to pay a good bit for a really small room. I've been thinking LIC all along as Vernon-Jackson and Hunter's Point are the first two stops on the 7 local in Queens. (Plus I have a friend there right now and he loves it.) Transfer to the 4/5 at GCT and I'm golden. I'm looking for a room, so I'm up on Craigslist and roomates.com.
Anyways, I'm also very much looking forward to seeing everyone out also. I should be at Markus / SVD next Friday. |

Someone I know is looking for a roommate in Astoria, 2 blocks away from the Ditmars Ave station, on the N/W train.
As someone said, the N takes you to Union Sq.
I used to live with her, and I loved it there. It's close to the Beer Garden (awesome during the summer) and lots of great food. She's great to live with, v. easy going, and her last 2 roommates were DJs, always good music being played @ home. PM me if you need info and I'll put you in touch with her :)
East side, bitches! And uptown sucks. |

Ok, ok. I guess it depends on the person.
Even when I was in Queens, I was bringing my ass to manhattan below 14th street. Now I rarely take the train. To me, there's nothing really past 14th worth going.
Except for maybe hitting Crobar occasionally for open bar.
Other than that, I got everything within walking distance. East Village rules. :D |

thats true - the thing i like about living on the UWS is hanging out in the parks on the weekends, west better because i like riverside park better than hangin over on york.
but yea everything downtown is more accessible, i can't complain though i have a 24hr diner on the corner of my block, a 24hr burger-all food joint-pizza store on the other corner, and a 24hr super market around that corner so im pretty setup for convenience lol
although there is more people downtown, it makes me feel kinda crammed to live down in the hot-spots. i like peace and quiet so uptown tends to be much more quiet than say midtown and below.
all in all i have to admit living in manhattan is probably one of the best times of my life...day in and day out, no matter how routine it gets, it's definitely something to experience in a lifetime. |

aieee.... the LES annoys me lol... I'll take the tourist-ridden Greenwich Village over the national-favorite, the hipsters (OMG SO COOL!), in the LES.... i agree with kid nyce, UWS is definitely a cool spot and very underrated... less than 5 minute walk to the most beautiful park in the world, what more can u ask for! |
