labeling system for harmonic mixing?

i've been using MixMeister to key out my tracks, but i recently decided that i'm going to key everything by hand now so that it's more accurate and so i can differentiate between major and minor... basically i'm just curious if there's any specific way that you guys go about doing this.

up until now i've just been writing the key next to the tracks. i'm familiar with the keycode numbering system, where you just label tracks with the number that corresponds with the key, but for some reason i feel like i still need to write down the keys next to the tracks as well. i like thinking of music in terms of keys rather than numbers, but i realize that the numbering system is a lot easier and quicker to use.

any tips or suggestions? how do you do it?

thanks in advance. :)

11A - Track Name (F# Minor)
2A - Track Name 2 (Eb Minor)

Makes them easily sortable by key (just sort the track names).

I use mixed in key and they use this system. (srry its huge...if its not a red x)

so I label my cds like so

I dont really feel a need to know the actual key of the song. I just know you can go up and down a number, 2 numbers, or 7 numbers.

Yeah the original poster already posted a link to the Camelot notation.

If you ever play with someone else who only keys with the actual key name, it's useful to have on your discs as well.

I do it like this

6A (Gm) Jaytech - Starbright (Jaytech's Touch Your DJ Mix) 130.0
11A (F#m) Vadim Zhukov - Exit (Original Mix) 133.0
9A (Em) Paste - Something For Your Mind (Dnox & Beckers Remix) 127.0

I write down the Keycodes (numbers) and also the notes.
I write the BPM at the end.

It works for me.

Good Luck

thanks for the suggestions guys. :)

btw Boomer - i like how you've got your tracklists multi-colored. seems like it may make stuff a little easier to read. i might have to start doing that!

I have something really useful for labelling tracks etc. When i find the link I'll post it up.

It's basically a filename -> id3 tag / id3 tag -> filename labeller.

nice for making things all pretty :)

i don't have Nero anymore (i use iTunes for burning CDs) but it'll be easy enough for me to set up a template in Quark and type up my tracklists that way!

thanks guys... now onto the neverending process of re-keying all my tracks.

I burn 2 cd's with the same 7 tracks or so on each.

I print the artist, track and key on the title

So for example trance no 1 would have tracks between 7a/b and 8/a b
