| Affirmative action does at least two things that could be considered bad. First, it creates the impression that minorities are not able to compete fairly for jobs and college entrance, that they have to have someone help them out based on their minority status in order to succeed in any numbers. Second, once they are hired, it leads to the impression among their fellow employees that, "Oh, this guy just got hired because he was black / hispanic / whatever, not because of his abilities." |

I think the government should focus more on helping the poor families instead of creating some political-correctness quotas. Poverty is IMO the main reason why a lot of minority kids are ill-prepared for the future. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the minorities in USA live in poor, crime-infested areas?
Social background is the main reason kids are unable to compete. Not because they have smaller mental potential.
Affirmative action actually makes people believe, that a minority person gets special treatment only because of skin color. Which in turn actually creates jealousy and more racism.
