What are you starting from?

PTR Project
Basic question. When you begin working on new project, what are you starting from? Creating drums or maybe bassline? What it is?
BOOsTER
totally depends

sometimes I'll just start playing with sound-design of a patch...that inspires me to write a melody and I build from that...

another time I start from the bassline...next time from teh drums totally depends on mood or whatever works

for example my latest track Veneficia Alberica started as a pretty random bassline...and it became pretty much a massive track :)
mzvirbulis
anything really that gets me inspired! but atm im trying to get my percs down pat!
djsphere
usually percussion and bassline
PTR Project
so there is no strict rule, as we can see. I usualy start from kick :P next bassline then percussion

there are no strict rules in music...just whatever works for you ;)
DigiNut
I start with whatever idea happens to jump into my head first.
DJ Shibby
whatever flows out

if nothing's flowing, then i'll usually work on drums and percs first, and build from there with the bass and melodies

Same here typically, except lately I've been concentrating on percussion and basslines and trying to get better at EQ'ing.
Mr.Mystery
Whatever comes out. Usually percs but not always.

KilldaDJ
lead and a bassline mostly
Subtle
I always start out with the kick. then I begin to build some percussions. Then I add the bassline. Then i start working on the bass progression, and build some chords and note changes. And if that
works well. I arrange the whole thing.
