With the subtractor!

I can never get pro sounding house/ish bass with this thing.
I can get a almost good bass...but theres allways something its missing.
No samples at the moment but id like to make basses like tonite only or sneaky ound system .

Any tips appriciated :)

yeah it's a known that it can be a bit hard with the subtractor sounding like a buzzing bee with full filter open, but honestly just work with what you got and learn to sound design properly. it's way capable.

honestly use the scream 4, i think using a distortion device really adds for what your aiming also.

tips:
-layer it up, then adjust the cent values on each of the oscillators.
-learn to eq properly.... which i haven't yet learnt!
-add scream 4
use a stereo imager to make the low mono!

also give it some sub, so something like a triangle wave at say octave 2 yeah.

but yeah im no pro!

good luck. remember reason is modular so just get creative!

post so bass patches so we can help where your going.

funny enough i have never bothered with the malstrom for ages as i wanted to learn subtractive first. maybe adding a malstrom could be good.

Yep, layering is where it's at. I always have at least 3 different layers of bass.

Good advice there. :)
Sometimes I use the Unison device to fatten up the bass. Before the stereo imager of course since it adds stereo. It's important to use fairly dry settings or it will sound airy and cheap.

The malstrom is awesome for bass layers. Especially the Sawtooth*16 waveform. Though the subtractor tend to sound more analog and fat for basslines.

cheers eldritch, thanks for the positives.
as everyones taste is different, would you use it as an aux? or insert with the unison?

also i have not really tried the unison much, i will try it when i go home.

Insert. High detune (about 60%) and low dry/wet (about 30%). It's really cool to use either before or after distortion.

I always use only one layer..

you want a good house sounding bass patch? fair enough, take a triangle and sine wave and add a Lp filter to roll off the higher freqency (Please set the filter acordingly dont just set it all the way down and complain there is now sound, set it about 1/3 up). there is start. I am work right now so I cant test, upload anything right now and scince i do have ADD i dont know if i will remember to it when i get home so dont hold me to it. I would like to add this is for a deep humming starting bass patch for subtractor. turn up the volume so you can hear the bass clearly and detune slightly and see what adds hmph to it
