A lil off topic but ..

Hey anyone know the best way i can get a good recording with my digi cam? I got a nice 10MP camera for xmas and I have tried recording at other PvD events with poor sound quality
(same camera , less res) . The Bass Always distorts.
I have also thought of leaving an mp3 player/recorder in some location for a few hours. Anyone else tried recording?

Anyone have good ideas? I have heard that scotch tape on the mic but even when I cover them its not all that great.

I would seriously Pay $100 for a good quality recording (just sound) for one of his bangin NY sets. Even 1.5 hours at peak time would be good .

EDIT: Will def. share if someone comes up with something that works .

I share your pain. Not about the pvd thing cause I dont really go to his shows anymore but wanting to get recordings of sets from when I go out. I get excited when people put videos up cause it is great to see stuff from a fun night out but then when I open them and try to listen it is such a downer to have the bass drown out any kind of music on the recording.

I got myself a Nikon cool pix digital camera last year and was surprised at how clear the sound comes out when I take videos, even in a club. I got home from armin back in the fall and there was no distortion.

good luck to you though and enjoy pvd next month when you see him.

you have to stand in the right spots for the sound to be good, dont stand next to a speaker, if possible, stand behind them, so the bass isnt hitting you too hard. i remember at roseland if you took vids from the back, facing the stage, you could get behind the speakers and it sounded a lot better

you won't get a good recording in any club unless you're willing to invest in decent equipment.

even with good equipment, however, the acoustics for recording at crobar are generally poor.

Thanks for the input pvd420 , i think im gonna try MD with a small mic on the upper level.

also I was wondering since you dont go to PvD anymore , who do you go see? I think PvD is starting to fade on me . I liked Corsten when he was around.

attempting that will result in a pile of unitelligible bass; use a battery back in conjunction with your mics to record via the line-in.

set up your cam by the dj monitors for a clearer sound.

NO Amir no!!!

I have a kodak funsaver; cheap camera; and I have had MANY video's come out with Stellar sound quality. The secret is your positioning. If you are standing near the speakers or bass bins, your ed. It's gonna sound like crap; cause the sound it too much for the lil microphones to handle. but if you back up, and stand closer to the center, you'll find an improvement in your sound quality. I've recorded next to monitors in smaller venues like 114, and had no problem, but if your powerin' a place like crobar, then that's just too much.

Supposedly putting foam over the mic of a digi cam will soften the bass and wont disturb the sound too much

Sony digi cams take awesome quality vids.......but that's about all I like about them.

But more importantly, and i think Brian will agree with me, its about the person who is doing the recording that matters. I mean u see these videos on youtube and it looks as if the filming occured while a person is driving on the highway with some girl giving him a BJ as he holds the camera. :wtf: Quality can only be so good, but being still and getting a nice framed vid is what its about imo.
