Its not incriminating to talk about it. Tons of former addicts come on TV to talk about previous drug use etc. As long as u dont do it during the interview while ure on video, shouldnt be a problem. LOL. Besides, its anonymous anyways. Then again, u guys might end up on PBS while ure parents are in the same room watching TV. :p :D  :wtf:

When I say incriminating I didn't necesarrily mean by law but more like my job for example. That type of information could probably get me fired. Being that I dont know her I could not trust her enough to beleive that it would be anonymous.

You never know she could play the recording in class and little do I know someone who works for my company could be sitting right next to her in class and say hmmm I recognize that voice.

Stefanie's response (verbatim):

No one hears the interviews!!!!! No one but me, as I transcribe them. This is actually all covered in the confidentiality statement. I record them, I keep the recorder in a locked file drawer, I keep the files on my password-protected computer, and once they are transcribed I erase them from the recorder & my computer. I save them under fake names.

The only reason I’m recording them in the first place is so I remember what people said because my pathetically overloaded brain definitely wouldn’t. I will quote them in the thesis but I won’t be using real names.

hope that helps everyone.. she perhaps understands the confidentially bits better than most of us considering her day job.. I just didn't want to say anything concrete without checking with her first..

Considering she has to come on here to find clubbers show to me she is pretty out of touch with the scene herself. I can ring off like 15 names right now of (close friends) who would do this for me. Why is she righting her thesis on a scene she isn't really part of herself?

One more thing.. She can't actually interview close friends "because of objectivity reasons (and that graduate research using human subjects has a lot of very stringent rules)"

She interviewed me, but it was for practice..

Hey Stephanie, a thought would be for you to actually go outside some of these clubs and do the research, ask people while they're online. I have seen several people do this and my friends have taken part in such interviews at least 3 times while waiting online. I myself did something like this last year but that was Freshman Sociology. Considering this is your master's, I really think you should put more effort and really do some real research. The average person on here is already jaded about the past five or so years of the club scene, so you should go catch these clubbers outside of the clubs candidly and you'll find less artificial responses than the people on here, in my opinion. I did a project just like this last year and went outside of Avalon, Crobar, and Spirit throughout one cold winter weekend, and really got the answers I was looking for from the club population that goes out week after week.

I would do it if she came to ME. lol ;)

I am also in gard school with work, etc, and also have my thesis due this semester.... so travelling even a half hour outta my way would be a loss of time for me. If she is ok with meeting up near me (I live on w120th) I would help her out. I know how much theses SUCK!!!

You're the best..

She's up for meeting at a mutually convenient location..
(Think internet dating first date safety rules though... public place, lots of exits.. She is a woman in nyc after all.. :) )

Send her mail directly though.. [email protected]

Yea I know the chances are slim to none but hey its a small world so you never know. P.S. smoking large amounts of pot causes major paranioa. You can tell stephanie to include that in her report :p

when grad students in the social and behavioral sciences need test/interview subjects in my school, there is always some sort of remuneration involved -- though it's usually a pittance.

I'd be willing to do an interview through email (and I have before for other TA's) but thats as far as I would go. Technically if it is done through email there would be no need for her to record it verbally since my answers would be writen.
