May be better in the tech gadget forum, but that seems a bit slow down there.

Im looking for something I can plug into the H/P out of my computer and transmit to my stereo amp FM receiver so I can listen to internet radio thru my stereo (trying to save laying a long cable down).

Any help appreciated.

Edit:
Extra research always helps. This is what I have come up with:

This however runs on batteries. Would prefer something powered...

The FM transmitters you're looking at are usually very short-ranged, eg. you have to have it almost next to the stereo itself (at least, in my experience).

I happened to find one at my friend's garage sale... it's much less fancier than the ones they have nowadays. Think black plastic case with a small dial and an on/off switch. Hell, according to the sticker on the back, the patents for the operation were still pending at the time of manufacture. The only thing about it is that the frequency can be adjusted over the entire FM spectrum, not just the 88-92ish kHz the ones nowadays can do.

Personally, I think running the long cable is better. With the FM transmitter, it may or may not work over the distance, and there will be a loss in quality (which may not matter).

On another note, you may be able to find a power adapter for one of those, eg. at the right voltage. Of course, it is a bit more involved and you should generally have an idea of what you're doing in this case.

Altering for power would be fine but I guess the 'reach' of the transmitter could be a problem. I did find an electronics kit which claims to transmit anywhere in your house but it has no freq adjustment, and like you say it is possible loss of quality could occur, tho with internet radio, it may not be noticable.

Thanks for your feedback.

Besides the lousy reception of those devices, they require your headphone out volume to be turned up REAL HIGH in order to get any decent volume out of the FM radio. And by turning up your headphone out volume REAL HIGH, the sound gets all distorted. The sound quality from the FM ends up sounding like low volume distorted crap! (When you unplug the transmitter from your headphone out, your computer speakers will be REAL LOUD and when you change your FM receiver to another radio station, it will sound REAL LOUD!)

Run a cable instead!

That looks good. $149 Aus - may have to wait a bit then.
Thanks for that
