Calling all math nerds: types of infinity (pg. 2)

the problem/dilemma lies in the fact that while we discuss infinity as if it were a number larger than our minds can comprehend, it is actually not a number at all, but rather a word we use for the concept of things that do not ever end, or do not have a beginning either depending on how you look at it
so if you're comparing a number sequence n,n+1=m, n=m (where its growing by one every time), without limit this is indeed an infinite sequence
and then compare that to n,n+2=m,n=m (where its growing by two every time)
while indeed the second set is growing at twice the rate, you cannot compare the actual size of the two, we use a symbol for it (infinity)
for an analogy as an example for how infinity is a symbol, think of trying to evaluate the area of a rectangle as follows:

|-----------|
|-----------|4
|__________|
it would be 4 times x, however since we lack a device to evaluate the value of x, we cannot find the area
similarly, if we replace x with infinity you'll see how it seems like it makes sense to visualize it, but evaluating size or volume etc is simply not possible

think of a fish, then think of the fish eating food, then think of the fish poop. Stop masterbating. Now, think of a naked lady eating a fish but the fish slips out of her fingers & into her throat, choking her. She chokes to death on the lounge room floor. You gotta get the body out before your parents get home... what are you going to do??
Well here is the solution: Infinity! That's right infinity can fix your problem! Just leave the body there and over an infinite amount of time people will start forgetting or stop even caring. Just think that in 1000000000000000 years her body would have totally decomposed. No messy left overs, no fish stains, the corpse is completely gone. Thanks to infinite. |

look, it is easy. Think about it, use your brain. The infinite can be your friend. It is a better friend that say gravity, or toothpaste, or garbage bags because the infinity will always be there for you. Sure gravity may help poop drop off from your anus, but infinity doesn't care if you leave poop on it's doorstep. Hell, you could leave a sewage farm on infinities doorstep but it will still be there for you during the rough times. Just imagine that there is a fish swimming in the sewage pond & it decides to eat some poop. The poop gets caught in the fishes throat & chokes it. Infinity will be there to help out this tragic situation by doing its magic. *BAM* a billion year goes past and the fish is gone!! All in a days work for infinity. |

| Math is a very interesting subject, indeed. I still kinda wonder whether I should have studied math instead of CS. My master thesis was about a subject in between, very interesting (if you're into it, that is). |
