I'm hearing rumblings there may be issues already with the host South Africa in the 2010 World Cup. I'm reading conflicting reports? One says the plug may be pulled they can't build or afford the stadiums in time but FIFA is denying it!

Anyone heard anything official.
I think Australia would have been a much better/stable host? |

They better not move it. Sure there have been some infrastructure delays. But remember, they already have world class stadiums in SA. What they are trying to do is use the event to build up other areas. There is still plenty of time to revert to "plan b".
There is no damn way.... Partying on the family property in Cape Town in 2010 is my life goal right now. |

i heard last week that the S.A Gov. stopped all the Construction and Hospitals' funds and relocate that money to building Stadiums...this is just wrong!!! i hope some other country will take over.

| I have heard of this as well but I do not believe there has ever been a time where a country has been stripped out of hosting the beautiful game and have it go somewhere else... although that would be interesting. |

YES, it happened b4...
1986 was supposeed to happen in Brazil, but they pulled out a year b4 the event because of $$$ issues.
so Mexico took over... |

FIFA wants to rotate the WC tourney in each continent. Africa for 2010. Not many nations in Africa that has the infrastructure to host, so really, South Africa wins by default.
2014 WC will be in South America (with Brazil looking to be the front runner... And they have some ed up crime rates too) |

He must be from Joburg. Yes the crime rate is very high in South Africa - But the fear and hysteria is even higher. There is much poverty and strife from many years of racist regimes. But people think that changes occur overnight... they don't. Progess takes time and events like the World Cup is an opportunity for them accelerate progress.
South Africa is not a country in a downward spiral but a country witha bright future ready to take the world stage. |

Actually he said he's from Pretoria. But he said Cape Town has the worst crime rate! Says Everyone has a gun and dont leave home without it! But on a positive note I agree things are on the upward and I think the cup would "Kick-Start" things.
I'm sure South Africa is a beautiful Country and would love to go there one day!!! |
