I guess you're right, languages evolve according to the times we live in. Back in the 1940's & 50's the word 'gay' meant 'happy, cheery' (Flinstones opening song cries "you'll have a gay old time" at the end) and it was used openly, today it means homosexual, and rarely used to describe such emotions...
PS: Nice site you got going. Interesting work |

Evolution is just change over time, not necessarily good change. |
If people feel better speaking/writing one way, I can't see how that is not good :p

What do you mean by "link between writing and etymology," and why is it a problem? Are you referring to the fact that English is less phonetic than languages like Spanish? |
Yes, exactly.

Why is that an advantage? |
Because that might be the very beginning of a solution towards a simplified English writing that could work in many different dialects.
...
By the way, am I annoying you? It's the 3rd thread in a row in which I end up "attacking" your opinion :p It's not personal, I swear :D |

Every last proposal I have seen for a "phonetic English" or "simplified English" has been unforgivably ugly.
:p

I like having my opinions attacked intelligently. Any idiot can sit there and nod his head or type "Right on!", but that's boring. |

I never understood the motivation behind that. It takes more work than typing normally. I guess it may just be a way of "standing out." |

Exactly! That's why it could be the beginning of something different and, hopefully, "less ugly" :p |
