Intelligent dance music (commonly IDM) is a genre of electronic music derived from dance music of the 1980s and early 1990s which puts an emphasis on novel processing and sequencing.[1] IDM's roots in electronic dance are responsible for the term "Dance" in the genre name, which was originally applied to musicians like Aphex Twin and those on the Warp Records label. Music referred to as IDM is generally abstract, and may range from soft ambient textures to more abrasive noise.

no, but when a foreigner (non-american) talks to another foreigner, they say:
"oo yes matey, argg, i wuv me some IDM. Paul Van deek ftw."
"oo yess, mate mate, IDM is the best!"
and they tell their foreigner friends about "IDM" and so on and so on. |

No noob. it's all about patterns and such. i'm personally not much into but a friend explained that sometimes IDM producers use mathematical equations to create songs, sound weird i know. BT's This Binary Universe is largely considered IDM, for example.
But really good IDM artists will use concepts like an elements half-live and systematically program a song to run like a metaphor of that elements structure, then after the breakdown eliminate half of the sounds used etc... i'm really not an expert on this, i just have weird friends. |
