Just out of curiosity how did you get that figure?

in any case for time/hassle of trying to get mac os on a pc, ease of use for final cut, logic, etc.

yes.

I haven't tried it myself but from what I've heard it couldn't possibly take longer than an afternoon sitting to get it working.

OS X on a pc is OLD. it has been being done for 3-4 years.

and OS X is TOO simple for a power user. relies too much on the desktop icons and the dock. if you are used to windows and having the quick launch toolbar then OS X is going to suck.

im contemplating getting a macbook pro just to dump OS X and run a good linux distro. no worries about hardware compatibility anymore since its x86. and linux has good media support. last night i was just wondering how i use my SDHC card reader on my linux laptop. sure enough i plug it in and a window comes up to open the flash card.

if you are buying a mac to escape windows then your making a stupid move. just evaluate what you use the machine for and make your decision from that.

i know you can build a laptop on Dells site for 1200 and its quite good. ive done it a few times in the past 45 days and each time i build a system i would be overall happy with for 1200. i say overall because i am a geek and i would rather have 4gb of ram, 2x200gb hds, a 256mb vid card, and a 17" WUSXGA screen but that would push it to 2200. not sure i want to spend that much at this point when im trying to pay stuff off.

from an objective pov, neither has anything over the other. they both have their strengths and weaknesses. unfortunately people have the view that NOTHING beats LOGIC PRO and the likes of software suites available for the mac. this is a stupid myth that is perpetuated by mac whores. im sorry. i think the mac is a great machine but that doesnt mean that its the end all.

here is the bottom line
MAC = even a retard with 1 hand can be proficient
Windows = you must know more than how to turn the thing on.

p.s. PC = Personal Computer...which includes macs.

actually the first boot up with my mac book was fairly simple and intuitive...shouldn't have a problem getting into settings and playing around with it...

this has been proven to be semi false as none of the laptops (minus the niche ones such as alienware) come with a fully discreet video subsystem. also other features on the mac are not even available to a pc owner. they are pretty equal in price really. macs come with BADASS warrantys and service. and i mean BADASS. your dies? no big deal. send it in and they fix it and send back. they will even do warranty work after the warranty if its within reason! find a windows box manufacturer that does that!

I never said nothing beat them, I just prefer mac apps to their pc counterparts.

im sick of having a million apps runnin on a pc and prefer the simplicity of a mac's operation. also, that about quick launch is bull ...

i so much prefer using their little bar thing with the icons and the widget view... much more intutive.

also when you press command tab it lets you click on the one you want. :p

True, but alot of those features are irrelevant to the average user, so their value is pretty subjective. On top of that, macs will have huge price increases over minor changes such as slight increases in memory or even color! ex; 20 gigs more HD space -> price increase of 200$usd (afterwards they changed it to a 40gig difference, much better deal but still overpriced)

I can't really find you actual numbers but I can tell you that when I worked for a vendor a few months ago, most non-mac laptop manifacturers offered equivalent protection plans.

PC user for pretty much all my life, just got myself a Mac Book, it makes all my media, art, digicam 100x easier...plus has built in applications that offer up some cool effects, image resizing without having to open PS. It's just a neat little bundle of joy that i can take around when travelling the world etc.

I still use a PC for all my programming and work stuff, but all media goes to the macbook. Go get yours!

Plus, you can put your weed in there!!

dude i use quick launch EXTENSIVELY and if i didnt have it i would die. my desktop is empty for a reason.

command tab lets click on what things? why would you use a keyboard shortcut to then click on something? thats counter intuitive to me. a keyboard shortcut is supposed to speed things up and require less steps not more. (i havent used OS X very much since it came out with the interface change. i used it a bunch after but only very shortly, but of course that has been what? 4yrs? a lot has changed i do agree but the same basic use of the interface and whatnot has stayed the same.)

to be honest, when it comes to digital media, the professional apps i do like better than the windows counterparts, but ONLY because they are much more refined. they do the job and they do it well.

i find Toshiba to have THE BEST warranty outside of apple. i worked at compusa and we had this guy bring his laptop in. he dropped it in mud. we took it apart and cleaned it up. sent it in for warranty and they fixed it. no questions asked. none of the others would even allow us to open the laptop.
