Stupid records!

Ah... nothing is like picking up your 20-vinyl order from the local post office. Only to find that one or more of the records are deformed in some way. I have only a collection of about 50 records, and so far, I have found these "abnormalities":

1. The centre hole is too big, causing the needle to skip a lot
2. The centre hole is too small, so that you have to jump on the record to make it fit on the spindle
3. The centre hole is in fact NOT in the centre of the record, so that you get seasick just by looking at it rotating
4. The record looks like it has been used to clean the floor
5. The list goes on and on....

Is it really so hard to press a vinyl? I have never in my lifetime seen a deformed CD or cassette... so what is going on? :eyes:

wow dude where the hell do you get your records???!

solution for #1:
..try using some tape. try using playdoh

solution for #2:
...use knife to cut in around the middle and use sandpaper to smooth it out.

#3:
?

#4:
...use it to clean the floor

youve never seen a deformed CD?

hmm..I wont use my mistress Barbera CD in a Car CD player cuz it always gets jammed, and it has a non circular burn pattern

and that one where teh whole isnt in the middle, the hole probly is, but the label isnt.

In fact it WAS a couple of millimetres off... you could easily see that the cartridge was moving a lot, almost skipping.

I know that most times it's easy to fix the records, I posted this because I had nothing better to do and if maybe some of you had some funny stories related to it... :)

I tell you what really annoys me. It’s when you have a 12” where on side feels “heavier” than the other. I.e. it takes more effort to manipulate than the other side! Drives me mental :whip:

lol :o
I Cant Focus
here's a quick solution to problem #2:

take a ballpoint pen (ie: Bic pen), remove the cap and insert it (hehe, insert!) it into the record hole and twist it back and forth to enlargen the hole. do this however long you feel is necessary to enlargen the hole. works like a charm every time!

do you mean that one side feels 'normal' but the other hardly catches the slipmat when you let go of it and if you did a backspin with it...it would almost spin forever? ;)

if so your record is warped a'la concave one way, convex other way

what i hate is tracks that start 16 beats into a 32-beat bar
or 24 beats in...etc.

or tracks that have an extra 4 beats at the end of a build up for some reason and completely throw your cueing off *shakes fist*

Hee hee I've never seen a deformed record like that before, it must be hell trying to beatmatch with that thing, you'll find yourself hypnotised not by the music but by the vinyl.
