Music production classes in Toronto

Does anyone know if there's classes or schools to attend that specialize in specific music production programs?

For example, when I was in Australia, they were offering a class taught by one of the guys from Nubreed to teach you all the ins and outs of Abelton. The course was 6 weeks long and cost something like $1500 (which included the $700 program).

Is there anyone in Toronto that offers anything like this? It's too damn difficult to learn this stuff on my own. :p

I think Da Phat Conductor offers private ableton classes. Do a search in the tribe.ca production forum, I think thats where I saw it.

no idea..but you always look at maybe Trebas..

It's an institute for anything and everything to do w/ Music..I know they have a DJ Program and stuff like that, but don't think any classes for specific programs...

check out the website ,all details are in there. I went and checked out the insitute it's a nice and cozy place and have real studios.

I hope that helped a little.

Hmmm, have to find Da Phat Conductor, lol. Hell, I'm willing topay someone to teach me this .

I had an old friend go to Trebas and he said he learnt somethings, but not enough to give him the proper training to produce his own... to this day he still tells me it was a waste of his time... but I like to make my own mind up about things like that.

Thanks for the link ExtacyBomb. I quickly went thorugh the site, and I sent them an email to send me more info and if they offer anything to do with Abelton or Fruity Loops in particular.

Hey Kris,

You could always start at Long & McQuade. They have classes scheduled for certain days. Basic stuff, and more complex stuff, with groups of people and even 1 on 1 sessions. Plus they have all that equipment, what better place than there to begin learning how to properly use the programs and hardware.

Best part is that they're free! :)

if you want to learn how to use ableton to make dance music, getting dylan conductor to teach you is probably going to be a way more efficient and cost effective way of learning, rather than taking a big honkin pricey course at a place like metalworks or trebas.

those courses are awesome if you want to be a studio engineer, but if you want to with some loops and make some techno just get someone who knows the shizz to show you...i took a course in otttawa a few years ago and, while it was nice to learn some fundementals, it taught me dick squat about making dance music..

you can message dylan on tribe or im sure he has a myspace..

Exactly what my mate (formally known as Bombtrack) tells me!
I'm into the goods mate. not to be sittin in a studio teachin others all day, but putin my own ideas together and gettin some real beats down on my own pc. Sounds like this Phat Conductor might be makin some dough soon. Thanks for reconfirming my skepticism in the "educational" system. :)

I have Protools, Reason and Ableton at home, and I'm happy to share any insight I may have in exchange for a shout out!
