Having it up to here is so last year.

I feel your pain. It is essential to have the "musical story" of the night be played out professionally, properly and with grace so that all the DJs compliment each other instead of play in their own little worlds. We've all seen it work a lot of the times, and, obviously, we've all heard it fail horribly as well.
All this being said I have to disagree with this statement...

I am totally embarressed about the fact that 90% of the local dj's in toronto that seem to get booked, know absolutely 0 about properly opening the night for an A Class Dj such as Chris. |
The locals that I regularly listen to know how to open an act. Heck, they know how to open a club on a regular night! Nathan Barato, Carlo Lio, Vinyl Junkies.. (just look at Nathan's opening set for Lawler...that he could drop certain tunes while keeping the tempo down in prep for Lawler...awesome). So though I totally see your point, I think the stat is a bit of an exaggeration--though one probably made to evidence your point, which I can understand. |

who cares if he opens with a kick ass set. GOOD!
Whats the problem? The "superstars" now just have to work harder, which is a good thing. I want be shown that they are awesome after an amazing opener. Its not hard to top a ty performance.
P.S. I hope this doesn;t bother you as much as it seems...cuz if it does...wow:nervous: |

Its a good thing you mentioned that...
After a few hours of pondering over the last time that I vented my frustrations about the lack of professionalism in what we all call "opening", I came to the conclusion that I really did need to get a few more ideas about opening off my chest, they've been tearing me up inside.
First of all, when it comes to being a real professional opener, how about wearing the official "I'm opening for (insert dj name here)" hat. That way, when there are those terrible moments of confusion where everyone is walking around going "who's opening, who's opening?" we would all know that if we could just fine the person wearing the "who's opening for (insert dj name here)" hat, we would have our problem immediately solved.
Second of all, every opening set needs to have more Xpander in it. I know some people think this is old fashioned, but there is no more classy move than having Xpander in every opening set city wide, that would be something truly unique for Toronto. |

Am I the only one who is aware of this? Or are there others who share this same frustration? |
All others who share the same frustration as you gather ever saturday night at the centre of Sonic and have a weekly meeting about this critical " opening set " problem.
In order to get in touch with them you must travel to the centre of Sonic and yell out 3 times " I feel the Pain ". |

Margaret we are not bashing sonic, but bashing bad opening technique.
As we have been attempting to discuss, the real issue here is that too many people have not learned the lessons tought in "opening set basics: the book for dj's who need to open a set for a big dj" |

We are interested in your educated opinion as well though...
J&A and I have been waxing poetic about the opening pitfalls made all to obvious at an alarming rate lately.
Where does oxidative stress on the brain fit in? Must be a factor somehow. |
