| I actually saw this sometime last year. It's a decent set of examples of the negative stereo-type of Arabs/Muslims that's been propagated in much of Western media and entertainment for a while now, way before 9-11 btw. So it doesn't surprise me how the public perception of Muslims/Arabs is fairly negative. When people's subconciou is being bombarded with negative imagery and information about a subject/group they know virtually nothing about, it easy to see how it's absorbed with out. And since that process isn't one conciously engaged it, they're no critical evaluation of that information involved there eigther. Keeping that in mind, I wasn't terribly surprised how some/many people reacted and veiwed Arabs/Muslims in a post 9-11 West. I find it somewhat disappointing and distasteful that people would rush to judgement in ignorance and anger rather than dialogue and education. |

While some of that was pretty old footage of a day and age when EVERYTHING was stereotyped (ie. Blacks, Jews, Mexicans, Rednecks, etc) I do agree that the Arab bunch do get their fair share.
I wouldn't go so far to say that they're mutually exclusive though.

Agreed.
It's no different when it comes to my own native heritage and what I see here in Canada and the reserves.
I have to catch myself, often, when I go past reserves, the negative image that has been portrayed to me for so many years before I past judgment on them.
In the past few years I've made concerted effort to learn as much as I can about them because I'd only be ignorant of myself in the end. |

At least in of the stupid movies that sterotyped arabs, you had arab people playing them. Ever heard of black face, or some WASP playing an american indian or hispanic in the movies.

This film made me cringe watching it. It sucks that your people are seen that way by joe lunch pail. I know Arabs, Persians and other races. And its always the same with all of the Tan Man, we all get stero typed but our actions as humans speaks volumes to people we meet.
We should get someone that can direct and start you tubing about the White American/European..... know any Directors Cyrus ;) |

I see nothing wrong with your perspective, but doesn't 9/11 make the Arabian world complicit?
I think the best model to present my position is the Super Saturated Solution model. You drop 9/11 in the mix and everything crystallizes.
In the sense that what could be more psychologically impactful than the boogeymen manifesting exactly as the campfire stories said they would... |

Informative video. If someone really wants to see what media brainwashing is? Turn on the discovery network. One of their channels usually has a documentary on "ISLAMIC" terrorists. |

Maybe you misunderstood what the hell I was saying.
This Stereo Type is nothing new, just new to a certain part of man. People should not cry over this, but rise up through thier actions and show the world that these stereo types are stupid.
Oh and what, a piece on the History or Dicovery Channel on Islamic Terrorists is brainwashing?? Its information, just like info on the Palestines getting focked over in the middle east.
Or maybe you are one of those that just see one side of a story...
Educate yourself in both sides of the issue kid and then maybe you can understand what the real world is about.

:conf: You mean in the public mind? I guess so, for the reasons I stated previously. But only the Saudis, by enlarge. Plus, 4 or whatever the exact number was, of the alleged hijackers turned up alive and well, reported in mainstream news like the Guardian and BBC. |

Don't worry about him man. Some people aren't that great at communicating effectively, hence they come across as jackasses at times ;). I'm guessing he get some of it from that Carlos Mencia prick, who is funny at times, but a real jackass too. |

Wow.. you do get defensive don't you? Listen... It's pretty much common knowledge that people that actually BUY into stereotypes are ing dumb - or ignorant. Now just when people - muslims - that arn't even Arab are trying to rise up against stereotyping by getting educated... moving to the west.. starting a new family - however you want to look at it - something along the lines of "I will kill myself for god" on your average TV show pops up - like the recent 24 episode. Now when Muslims rise up and protest - people start calling them "sensitive" because they want stereo-typing to be stopped. You are already taking a bad image and turning it worse in the masses eyes'. That inturn is going to piss off more people.

Are u ing kidding me? After all that crap about two sides of a story, you are buying into whatever bull the American media feeds you. I forget the name but the documentary actually was on the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. You could clearly tell how biased the documentary was. Not ONE image of a Palestinian kid dying but instead 3 Israeli kids who died from Hamas rockets. You had all of the main tensions and factors in there but the main part... the attrocities of the IDF soldiers are ommitted ... as if they never exsisted.
If you think that's balanced... you better not speak again. Like I said, it'll be for your own good. It's funny how the CNN "International" that airs down here in the United States is different than the CNN-I aired to parts of asia and europe. My point is that America is already CORRUPTED with bull media to begin with. Your average American is brainwashed about what Arabs are and what Muslims are. FFS... the biggest most controversial issue in the world and your average American doesn't know the difference between An Arab and a Muslim. People here in America do not care about what happens outside.. which is fine.. totally understandable. But that does not mean in any case that the media here can manipulate an image that concerns every Muslim to its own idiotic needs and serve it to people that buy whatever they are fed. |
