I'm surprised at you Jenny, you know that taking extra vitamin C isn't going to help once you're already sick. I'm on the fence as to whether or not it works at all (I've seen no medical evidence, but the placebo effect is apparently stronger than my own skepticism), but if it does, it's only as a preventative measure and not a panacea.
Yeah, I'm sick too, but being without heat for a week tends to have a negative effect on one's immune system. You guys getting sick year-round need to eat better, get more exercise, and start washing your hands. |
Actually, yeah it does help. Why? Main reason being because it increases the production of white blood cells. What do white blood cells do? Fight inflammation. Inflammation that can cause fevers, etc. etc.
No it doesn't make you BETTER once you're sick, but it DOES help in reducing symptoms.
LOL...medical evidence, are you a doctor now?? ROFL. I guess my nursing texts and instructors are all wrong then.
If you really need to see proof, I'll gladly dig up some evidence from peer reviewed journals. |

I genuinely would like to see anything from a peer-reviewed journal that says vitamin C has a measurable effect on fighting sicknesses and/or reducing symptoms, above and beyond the normal amount of vitamin C in a proper diet.
If it's just being used to fight vitamin deficiencies because of a poor diet then, well, that's another thing. If there's evidence that it works in other ways then please, put it up, I'd love to be able to confirm that I'm not wasting the $5 a month or whatever it's currently costing me.
I think that what you're saying is theoretically true, about affecting white blood cell counts (haven't actually checked that), but controlled tests are essentially the only accepted form of evidence in the medical community (no, I'm not a doctor, but there's about 10 of them in my immediate or next-to-immediate family). |

Hey now, I can admit when I'm wrong, when I'm wrong. As for shutting up, I only do that when it's no fun to argue anymore. :p
