Thats why I voted for it!
But yeah, I agree...why do they need to renovate NPS? Couldn't that money (I think it was $40 million) be used on something better, like improving the TTC or something?
What ever happened to renovating Union Station btw? |

| The Rogers Marval design looks good to me. We need more green space and their plans don't look like they'd cost too much. The Zeidler design is just BS, I absolutely hate it. |

Although I don't live in Toronto, I would vote for Rogers too. Definitely a fan of leaving some of the green. |

well apparently PLANT wins the Nathan Phillips Square competition.
clearly the budget was the main factor in this. their design can be implemented relativly quick if done at once or can be done in smaller projects over an extended period of time. the only thing with that is toronto is known to stretch out projects or start it and then abandon the whole thing saying that there is no money for it anymore.

but i still cant help but wonder how great it wouldve been if the marvel proposal wouldve won. look at all that greenery.

| On the bright side, at least Zeidler didn't win. They would have taken out virtually all of the trees. |

| with all this global warming stuff thats being talked about, ud think that they would at least consider the urban heat island effect and how it's such a major contributor to the weather, climate and the whole enviroment of the city and surrounding areas. but no, lets have more concrete. :rolleyes: |

^^^ indeed. on a somewhat related note, there was an interesting article on the increasing proliferation of "green roofs" on new condos and towers. so many benefits and not grossly expensive to implement. It's nice to see this type of 'environmental' component to design, particularly in a city core.
I like the design that won...trees + a more open, uncluttered design = nice, warm, usable space.
my one complaint with the Rogers proposal is that the tree lines are really thick and seem overly dense, which kind of cuts off the interior from the surrounding street/area. The Plant plan, which seems to have a thinner (and taller?) tree line, seems to have a more open feel as a result.
both are really good...the others are cold in comparison. trees are
good!
