This reminded me (along with the overall thread) of a quote from one of the crazy "quad preachers" that would stand in the middle of the Quad at the University when I was in school trying to use their hellfire and brimstone speeches to save the heathen students.
This one guy, 'Mad Max' as he was called by the students, was preaching one afternoon when my freinds were having lunch, and he said "We need to go back to the old days when you beat your wife with the bible!"
I just find this quote funny as hell.

The logic of his statements seem to imply that Allah is a male. Unless that is the case, he would not condone wife beating.

Iam not fine with any beatings on a women. But it will happen anyways. Muslims are family oriented people compare to Westerners. If they have a strong family network than the less likely there will be spousal abuse. But if you are going to beat your wife than there is no reason why they can't be civil about it??

It'll happen a lot less if you don't have community leaders and religious figures actually condoning this kind of behaviour to drag their collective asses into modern day society. Rather than behaving like the cult leaders who invented these kinds of religions back when people where clubbing each other over the head was slightly more common practice, rather than any kind of intelligent discussion.
Slapping each other about isn't a means of discipline, it's used on very unruly children, not adults with their full faculties and if we can't even resolve conflicts in a family home without some kind of physical violence then it doesn't say much for that kind of society and how it will respond to outside criticism even if its for their betterment.

If they're so family oriented, it shouldn't be happening in the first place!
