rented it the other night, haven't gotten around to watching it yet. i'm sure i'll love it as it's a sophia coppolla film and i was extremely impressed with lost in translation...it's one of my favorite DVD's.

you also need to see The Virgin Suicides ( Kirsten Dunst is in it btw )

I have been a fan of Coppolas work since she started directing and I saw Marie Antoinette as soon as it came out ( and to my advantage as It came out months in advance in France versus the North American market ).

I loved the way it completely deconstructed the typical Royalty movie.
The music also works wonders and I listen to the soundtrack quite regurlaly.

The thing that put tons of people off was the historical blasphemy which is comprehensible and others found the movie so damn boring.
But that is what Sofia is all about.
She films girls who are stuck in lives of semi comfort yet oppressing restraints all while managing to portray it in a non drab way.

I am usually always put off by royalty movies but I went to go see this without thinking twice because it was Coppola. If it had been someone else I doubt I would have given it a single thought.

Marie Antoinette

One of my favorite movies of 2006 :) :toocool:

saw the movie 2 weeks ago on the plane

i didnt like it maybe because i've read the book marie antoinette this summer from andré castegnot , a great book where her life is explained in details and analyzed , and it led me to feel disappointed about the movie

but i found the movie very disappointing :(

Historically accuracy was obviously nowhere to be found in this movie which is why the critics in France hated the movie so much ... adding to this the fact it was a damn foreigner shooting a movie on Marie Antoinette with whom the french maintain a love/hate relationship with the historically value she was and everything she represented.

By the way seeing this movie on an lcd screen in a plane, or the tv back home doesn't make this movie justice.

Video projector ftw!

:D
then again not everyone owns one :p
