| What happened to the good old days when you could tell how good a CPU was by mostly just its clock speed. Now I don't know what the hell I'm looking at! |

| well, if its got a decent speed, and 2 cores, its better than the one with one core at an amazing speed. also, amd's do more work per clock cycle than pentiums, so their clocks have been lower all along. the "2800+" refers to a comparable clock speed on a pentium chip. performs at or better than a pentium 2.8 ghz chip. or so the ad says. |

| What's the best value chip out right now? Best bang for the buck so to speak... under $150 |

Intel Core2Duo E6300.
1.8 Ghz. With the proper motherboard/memory and adequate cooling, it's able to overclock to around 2.6GhZ.
It's what I have now with 1GB (2x512MB) of Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 RAM.
Need to upgrade my motherboard and cpu heatsink before i overclock it though.
Going to get Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard and a nice big Zalman CNPS9700NT heatsink.
Google "e6300 overclock" for more info. |

Of course the most powerful ubercomputer was owned by the government. It was enormous and powered by coal and steam. It was the first computer that showed that human computerizers could be replaced by machines. I remember the day that a man challeged the ubercomputer to a computing race. They were given many tasks, and could only answer in ones and zeroes. Through most of the race the ubercomputer and this man were neck and neck, but finally the man pulled ahead at the end and won the computing race. Unfortunately he immediately fell dead from a stroke, a result of the enormous toll his brain had taken from the heavy computing.
This man's name? John Henry the Computerizing Man. He was born with a calculator in his hand. Some say that every time you boot up your computer you can hear ol' John computing away...bleep bleep SKRRRRR wop! Some say it's just the wind. Not that you kids would remember such a man. |
and the point of your post is?

| even though I'm an AMD whore, the intel core duo is where it is right now for 64bit goodness, however the sad fact is that xp64 and vista both fail at running well in 64bit version. I believe (from fray) that vista 64 won't accept unsigned drivers, which a lot of things have, which would pretty much be ridiculous. |
