I have no clue of music production or anything like that but i thought to myself would be the easiest way to gain knowledge of such is start to edit tracks.

What program is essential and beginner friendly for editing?

Cheers!

You'll probably get a lot of asnwers, but there is Soundforge and Wavelab which could try out, those are very nice

If you are talking about a DAW sequencer type program, then there is FL studio, cubase, sonar, reason, etc.

Editing as in chopping up existing tracks? That would just mean listening / using to certain parts of songs like a beat loop?

You could use a program called Ableton Live to pull together samples and loops of parts of your favorite producers songs and from various sample CDs available commercially.

This will help you learn about song structure and this program means you would find it easier to get loops in the right tempo and key so they work together.

After a while you will find just pulling loops together will be very restrictive unless you have a way of creating loops yourself e.g. basslines using software instruments. Im which case other software such as Reason 3 or other favs on this forum will help.

Why not just dive into a sequencer without all this "editing" puba? Alot of us did that, and we didn't think that we had to "edit" tracks before we upped the anty.
