Police discover 100 sheep carcasses at downtown Toronto location

TORONTO (CP) - Police made a unusual discovery Saturday morning where they found close to 100 sheep carcasses at a downtown home.
Officers were alerted to the disturbing scene after residents in the area noticed a foul smell.
Staff Sgt. Edward Tymburski said police received a call around 11 a.m. and found a man at the home skinning the sheep.
The man told police he had a contract to dispose of the carcasses.
After a short investigation by police, the department of health and local bylaw officers, the matter was turned over to the Ministry of Natural Resources.
"I guess somebody saw him in the process of transferring these carcasses into some kind of a dump truck," said Tymburski.
"I don't know why they were killed...but he was given a contract to dispose of them and he chose to take them to his home," he said.
No charges were laid against the resident.
The transfer protocol for dead animals is governed by the Dead Animal Disposal Act, which is monitored by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Enforcement of the law is by the Ministry of Natural Resources, which will further investigate the incident on Monday.
