I'm messing around with this riff and I kinda like it but I also have a feeling I've heard it before.

Anyone recognise it?

Cheers

Hopefully it is. I was also messing around and muting notes while it was playing.. seems like I can get quite a few new riffs that way.

:haha:

Anyways, i dont think u should have anything to worry about, doesnt sound catchy enough to be recognized in any other tune.

I don't recognize it. If you came up with the tune in your head, go with it. If in the unlikely event it does match up somehow to something someone else has used, so be it but you'll know you came up with it yourself and thats all that matters.

Yeah I also find it's easy to over-complicate riffs/melodies when I write them because a lot of the simple ideas are taken. But I guess that unless it's a glaringly obvious copy of another tune you should just go with it.

Hey Subtle, be nice. You made me cry. :sadgreen:

oh. dont take it the wrong way. its not catchy because you havent made a chord progression with the bass yet. put the bass down 3 or 4 seminotes at the 2nd or 4th bar and you are on to something. :)

Hehe, well I was only joking about crying! I'll try what you said though. It's a riff I'd use for a buildup, I've still got to fix up the drums/bass etc. ;)

hey i didnt listen to your sample but even if it was already used it doesnt matter...it's the overall sound and feeling that a track conveys that matters, and how all the riffs fit togethor, not just one individual one.
