All depends on which part of town you based. Where is your hotel located?
If you do plan on doing a bit of drinking taking a cab may be the way. Cost could be comperable to renting a car too.

You couldnt have picked a better weekend to come to SD. 3 big events in 3 days!
You dont have to worry about a car so much to get around downtown SD. This isnt like NYC you can walk to all the hot spots in downtown in about 10min. The Gaslamp Quarter where most the best bars, restaraunts and clubs (including Belo and On Broadway) is about 6x8 blocks in area. So just stay on foot if your staying downtown. If your driving in ro downtown, parking will cost around $8-12 depending on the night.
If you do rent a car be sure to take sometime to drive north on pacific coast highway and check out all the coastal cities. Its a really nice drive with great places to stop and take picture, shop and eat. It could take you most of a day if you take your time and explore.

yeah its gonna be a great trip for drew1127 and me. :tongue2 spend some quality time + seeing the sights with my baby...great recommendation about the coast btw, we are SO going up North, im bringing both my dSLR and my point and shoot. i LOVE taking landscape shots and SD boasts some impressive sights so im told...probably will spend HOURS there basking in the beauty of it...
its also to celebrate an early bday so its even more special :toothless right now not sure what parties we are gona hit up. but either way, im making sure this weekend goes *EXACTLY* the way I want it to go with the places i wanna go, and the ppl whom i wanna see.

my favorite thing about SD is the sunsets. pretty much every day, no matter where you are, you'll see a gorgeous sky as the sun is going down. last glimpse of light before its time to PARTY.
if you're trying to hit up a beach, my favorite is encinitas. don't know if that's too far north for you though. otherwise mission bay or coronado should do the trick.

my all time favorite sunset was witnessing a full sunset while on Maui, when the sun set OVER Lanai and created a postcard perfect scene like NO OTHER. it was me and another artistic soul who was perched atop the beachwall with our cameras in hand, taking madd shots per second. a once in a lifetime scene to DIE FOR. but i bet SD will come pretty damn close :cool:
