I have a strange feeling this is going to be packed tonite...i would suggest getting there early and being on the guestlist....A friend of mine that works there says that the promoters spent alot of money getting guetta there which equates to little to no comps and usually a packed club. I suggest getting tickets if you feel like really going. I'll see you all there!

(Other) Brian!! I think this is the first time I've seen you post here. haha No doubt it's going to be packed. We have dinner plans, but hopefully we won't be too drunk/full/tired to make it out for this. |

This party made me want to kill myself. We left at 2:30 because I swear, if I got pushed by some one more time, I might have hurt someone. The crowd, IMO, was awful to put it mildly. The guy who opened reminded me of Sander K the last few times I've seen him, having gotten more diva-y, but not really much more enjoyable unless you're trying to play to teenage girls or Paris Hilton. In 20-30 times @ Cielo, I don't think I've had this crappy of a night until now.
To add to it, everyone should notice that Cielo now adds 20% to tips automatically, which is only noted on 1 of the 3 receipts that they give you (the itemized customer receipt). I've had them add tip automatically on huge tabs before ($150-200), but pay attention like I did if you open a tab. I mean, it's fine because I tip that much usually, it's just deceptive and if I weren't paying attention, would make me add 20% onto a tab that already includes a 20% tip.
Barosoap had fun, though, and was pissed I didn't. |

I like the venue but I only go there on Mondays without VIP Reservations because the space is too small for big time DJs. IMO
PS. I still put a little extra cash tipping on top of the 20% even though I think they make enough as it is serving a bottle. |

| Got there around 11. Left a little before 3 and it never got too crowded. Everyone was really into the music and I thought the opener was great, almost too good for just a warm up. Cielo is truly the dancer's dance club. The tunes that Guetta dropped reminded me of last summer in Ibiza. Siighhh. Nice meeting ya, Mike. |

As GhB said I had a good time even though he didn’t. No wait at the door thanks to guestlist, however reduced was $25 not $20 as advertised. Compared to the last Thursday party I went to for Switch, the crowd was better… at least better looking and fashionable. Rather than FOBs and nerds it was more Euro(trash) and guidos. People were speaking more in French and Spanish than in English. Anyway, I didn’t think people were particularly pushy unless you were right in the path of foot traffic.
The opener was average. He spun the usual fun diva house, but mixing was mediocre. The crowd was dancing a lot though and having fun. The club was full when we arrived before midnight, which is unusual for Cielo. It was cool to run into a clubbing buddy from college that I hadn’t seen in 1.5 yrs. Guetta’s mixing wasn’t good, but that’s what I expected. The music and his enthusiasm kept the party rocking though. Some tracks he played in the short time we heard him: David Guetta vs The Egg - Dont Let Me Go, Fedde Le Grand - Put Your Hands Up for Detriot w/ Danzel - Put Your Hands Up In The Air (This track is so dumb it makes me laugh.), Prydz vs Floyd - Proper Education, and one track that sounded like Prodigy – Breathe. I’ll post a few pics and vids later. |

We had a lot of fun that night. I went with a bunch of friends and met 'soap and groundhog there. The opener was DJ Exacta, and his fans brought a very Jersey element to the club. Nevertheless, we had a blast. Drinking definitely helps cut down on the annoyance factor of the club ;) My one screwy moment was this girl who talked CRAZY out in the patio with me. She kept going on about how Anna Nicole was killed by her lawyer friend and this is all about the money and the kid and she would not stop! She wouldn't leave me alone! She followed me around asking me if I thought Anna was murdered WTF! I swear I wanted to turn and ask her what she was on but was afraid to even want to start a conversation with her :nervous: She was one bathrobe away from muttering in the streets...
Anyway, we stayed till close 4:30! Augh, I'm going to bed now to catch up on sleep.... |

If there was anybody left in bed in the city that never sleeps, then David Guetta made sure to wake them up with his world renowned house tunes. The king of Paris’s club scene came to New York City to celebrate his forthcoming release from Ultra Records, “Guetta Blaster”, available on March 20th. Club Cielo, in the trendy meatpacking district was the venue for this special night’s event.
Those of you who attend Guetta’s legendary “F*ck Me I’m Famous” parties in Ibiza, Paris, Miami, or around the world, already know that the event gets everyone, and mean everyone, from the bartenders to security, up and moving with his banging beats and unmatched enthusiasm. Last year at Holland’s annual Sensation White arena festival, which is considered to be the premier trance event, Guetta blew the trance fans away with his magnetic mix of commercial and deep house hits.
The only thing you can expect from the world famous DJ/producer’s track selection at his live events is the unexpected. He drops everything from his own chart topping hits such as Love Don’t Let Me Go, to other top house hits from Fedde Le Grand’s Put Your Hand Up for Detroit, to Eric Prydz’s Proper Education, which had all dancing and singing along. As for the unpredictable, how about Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Otherside, this combination of non-stop hits and Guetta’s mixing makes for a night full of energy.
As for the CD, I listened to the advance copy; I can tell you that it is exactly what you would expect from Guetta, which is great news for all those looking for music they can dance to. It you looking for his most famous hits and some new house tunes that are sure to be heard during the upcoming WMC, you will definitely want to pick up this release. “Guetta Blaster” is all the spirit that he provides during his live sets, packaged in CD form!
Many tracks feature the soulful vocalist Chris Willis, who lent his voice to one of Guetta’s classic hits, Just A Little More Love which is on this CD. The standout track on this release, which I would expect to get major airplay, is; Open Your Eyes, where the singing of the Stereo MC’s on top of Guettas fierce production provides for a tune that is simply addicting. Following that track is Last Train where the gospel inspired voice of Miss Thing delivers the album’s deepest, dirtiest tune. The entire CD is full of songs that can all become chart toppers in Europe.
What this release is not, is part of the electro/tech movement that seems to be sweeping electronic music today. The minimal sounds that swept the UK and Ibiza the last couple of summers will not be found on “Guetta Blaster”. These tracks are meant to for you to Get Up, as the title of one of the new tracks suggest. This is not an album that will revolutionize house music, but it does take some experimental chances, and come up more than successful, as in Paul Oakenfold’s mix of The World Is Mine. When one of the hardest trance producers teams up with one of the hardest house producers, you would not expect this unbelievable mix that reminds you of the chill music found playing at Ibiza’s hottest cafés and clubs.
David Guetta has been the pioneer of the house movement in France; his newest release will give his older listeners memories of the music they have heard on the dance floors around the globe. As for his newer fans this CD will give you an excuse to turn you house into your own personal club. Overall this is a fantastic release that will provide some more notoriety for a DJ that well deserves it. |
