whahahaahahahahah!!!!
| quote: | | As for the sound quality. Stereo is the equivalent of CD quality sound. It is, in essence, the same sound quality , but with the bits you can't hear cut out. ( Like an MP3) ANd the same goes for the MP3's. They get compressed to 264 KBPS. It is not really possible for the human ear to tell the difference, but some people can hear the difference at LP2 and I can definately hear the poor sound quality of LP4 |
lemme summarize:
net md does NOT record actual mp3s, it converts to ATRAC3, same system it records cds with
md goes up to 4x74 or 4x80 minutes... fcourse u will lose quality, but when u record 2x, u wont really hear the difference...
md cuts off the highest and lowest frequencies of the music, now if uve got a high-end recording, u could hear the difference between the original and the copy (i do)
advise on 505: dont :)
take the N1, or if u dont got the money, the 707... im thinking of buying the N1 myself, full magnesium cover, flat, backlit remote on the wire, battery lasts for ages, etc etc :)
for more md questions, u can contact me, i know everything bout em |

Looks a bit better than mine, and mine does the job.
Mine is skip free, records loads of music onto dirt cheap minidiscs, and the sound quality is good.
That's all I want from a minidisc to be honest :) |

| mds dont skip... as far as i know, only sharp is not shockproof... |

Mine's a sharp, the cheapest recordable sharp do (or one of the cheapest), and it's never skipped.
It has 40 second anti-shock which it doesn't even need. |

why would you advise me not to get the 505. based solely on the price, i can tell that it obviously isn't as good as the M1, and if money wasn't an issue anyone would buy the M1 over the 505. but not comparing and looking only at the 505, why would you not purchase that one? |

Md can store ~140Mb of data if you are interesting..
Sony actually made a MD-data drive at a point in time..

Why do you wanna know? cos i dont think you can put files on to MDs, you can only record music on to them, i think. |
yes, you can store data on it. There is no difference between music and data, it is just a different way of interpreting the data...
Yes, if you wanted to, you could use a vinyl to store your files, just playing it on a turntable would not do any good..
umm, done ranting methinks :toothless |

Then when you turn off your minidisc, it will do its thing, acknowledging that new tracks have been put on the minidisc. I'm not sure why it does this, but it does. For a 5 minute song this will take a few seconds. And then you're done. |
It's writing a TOC onto the disk (Table of Contents), which , I think helps the MD player quickly read info (nr of tracks, song lenght, where does the track start etc) the next time when you try to play the MD |

When i first turned it off, I was replacing the battery, so I pulled the battery out, and lost everything I'd just transferred!
So that's something to bare in mind, turn it off and let it do its thing. Otherwise it gets all nasty and removes your music! |

yes, let the minidisc player write the TOC before moving it...
even if you shake it a little bit it will interrupt the TOC write |

When TOC is active. THe whole MD player does not have any functions activated. You can't even open the player. Cool Eh?
Shock proof protection works in the way that the music has already bbeen read in advance on the minidisc. I.e 40 sec shock protection, means that if your disc is at the 1 min mark, the actual laser is at the 1min 40 sec mark, and the music u r listening to is being played back via the buffer memory.
MY previous reply on MD storage space was incorrect cos I forgot that the 1st level of quality, in kbps terms, was 264 not 132. So obviously just double my amounts for the correct storage sapce in MB.
The MZN505 is missing something,, which is quite useful, that the MZ-N1 has.
For everything u wanted to know about Minidisc go here. http://www.minidisc.org/
ITs the best! |
