Hi All

After DjDirty reminding me of this seq i've decided to check it out as my cubase sx2 needs upgrading and I'm not so sure about Cubase 4 as my pc is 2 yrs old.

How many other TAs use this sequencer and what do they think of it?

*side note; you can get a cubase skin which looks awesome and would help in a transition*

Hi!

Iv'e used it for the last couple days, and I am impressed. Still learing how to use it properly, but I can record, and route effects and control my hardware/soft synths. There are some tutorials online, they got a great forum going, but nothing beat the mirc chatt. I had a question regarding effect sends and routing, and the question was answered right away. They have a great community going, and once I got thrue my head that you can't judge the book by it's cover... thease guys have a winner on their hands. They way this software development is going, adding new features and such, new fixes on almost daily basis, This DAW is going to be killer. I mean I've been with cubase since version 1, on atari, so it's like 10 years or something like that.. I've tried a lot of diefferent DAW's: Cubase sx 3/4, Logic, Sonar, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, and Samplitude, and this reaper software is working so good on my system, it made me think.. What the hell are the other companies doing? And it's not that I run a slow system or someting.. I'm on a duall core intel conroe e6600 with 2 gigs ram, but the latency I run my system using reper, is not reachable by cubase using same system. I can only say give it a try, since it's fully functional sherware, after than you decide. By the looks of it I am moving over from Cubase.

It reminds me alot of Music X2 on Amiga lol, real solid feel to it.

Only used it briefly last night, just ran z3ta on a large patch that would stretch my cubase sx2 system to about 40% and on this it only registered 23% cpu use with the free oldschool reverb from voxengo. So quite happy now :)

Do you know how to run inserts? Is it just create a new track and instead of running sends to it I just run the output of the track straight to it? Or do I insert the fx in the same track as the vsti?

Have you tried the Cubase skin, makes it more bearable lol?

As far as I know, when you wanna do inserts just throw it in the same track, right after the vsti. You can throw as many in as you like, switching them around in any order. For the sends You just create a new track and route stuff to it. Check out the video tutorials in their wiki page, it helped me get going fast. They eaven have true sidechaining. I got the cubase buttons from the cubase skin mixed with a darked background.

yeah, it's for commercially releasing tracks for profit. the other is for personal enjoyment.

Its nothing to do with the software itself, is the rights you have with its use under the license, like academic software. With the cheap version you are NOT ALLOWED to sell anything made in the software, hence the vastly reduced price.

Ok, just installed and tested.

FL uses 17mb RAM on startup, reaper uses 8mb. Running a 1 bar loop through 3 instances of legacy cell on Reaper gave me ~60% cpu usage and ~65% on FL.

Just some stats for you there ;)

Looks like a pretty sturdy app, only thing I dont like about it so much is the masses of windows that you have to open. BUT, the dock layout is nice :D

What is this mirc chat? I cant find the channel anywhere on the site.

Having loads of prob setting up battery 2 with multi audio outs :( Need about 3 stereo and 8 mono but it's just not happening. Following a tutorial in the wiki and it's just not working as it should do. Bah!!

I hate being a n00b with seq.. lol but I won't give up :D

You need to download mirc client, instal, and connect to irc.landoleet.org and then to the #reaper <--channel

Too bad I can't use my PC keyboard as midi contoller.. Otherwise, great sequencer!

This is an impressive sequencer and it is nice to see one with a sensible price tag. The interface customisation is really good, except that you can't undock the arrage window which is annoying. I made a Logic skin to feel more at home. It's not as quick or easy to use as Logic though, and more importantly it's audio engine doesn't seem as good as Logic's either. So I won't be switching to it yet.
Also this page is quite interesting (start at the bottom).

You can, there is a virtual keyboard thing you have to use.

I can't see anyway of undocking unfortunately.

Have you tried the forum? If you suggest an enhancement they will listen and it may be added to a future update.
