That's like so untrue it's garbage.
Personally I don't like people who go see the DJ just so they can say
they saw #2 DJ or whatever, although if that gets them into music
then it's fine I guess, if it's just a random club goer who just
happens to be there when he's playing then that's fine too, there
are more of them than you like to think, but real fans are there
because of what he plays and that makes him what he is as a DJ,
I wouldn't wanna see him play something else, that, I just
wouldn't go see him. And then what if he would, you win? For what?
TA, for who? Please, go listen to what you like, and let others listen to what they like. |
maybe you are apart of the minority but sorry its not true and they dont go there to brag about it, your missing his point. they just go because of his big superstar dj status and the misconception that his number 2 ranking is actually a true representation of how good he really is. |

I kind of agree with the topic title regarding a couple of things:
Ilse Delange - The Great Escape (Armin van Buuren)
Prooves that Armin hasn't lost it! Best material from him in a couple of years.
Armin van Buuren - Rush. Also an amazing tune.
Although I like Tiësto's album a lot, I doubt we'll see two melodic trancers like this from him in the near future. Same goes for PvD.
As for ASOT I wouldn't say it's right to judge Armin the artist / dj from that show. It's his production and live sets which really count imo :) |

it's true that the current trance standard is really lacking quality. but how come armin forces him to play epic trance only? there's load of other interesting trance variations he could mix into his sets to make it more unique and standing out. he have himself to blame. |

It's the general feeling around here that "ASOT trance" is wrong to listen to, I for one want this to change. No beefing anymore. |

I seem to remember he played vibrasphere, and you rolled your eyes in the opposite direction.
Guess he can't have it his way either way. But then that just comes with having a show, whose image, is completely tarnished by the weekly pap he is promoting on it. |

Good one, just run along to your homey and tell him to play something decent then! |

But when he does venture a bit off, he gets scolded. He drops a housey tune and immediately he gets bashed.
I don't mind other genres whatsoever, but 'melodic' trance, whether that's uplifting, epic, dark, etc, is still what appeals the most to me, because it's the only type of music (melodic) that can generate an emotional response out of me. I like house, I like harder club music, I even started off with psy, listening to the likes of MWNN and AP, but melodic will always be special to me... and perhaps Armin as well. |

you know, i automatically expected to disagree with anything you said regarding this subject... but this is rather true. the amount of househeads who seem to want to burn the likes likes of armin/tiesto at the stake whenever they *gasp* play a tune that originated in the house/minimal/whatever scene as opposed to the trance scene... one would think they're diversifying but no, apparently they're just 'trying to be cool'
(this doesn't mean i'm defending armin in the slightest) |

But these tracks are often a question of context. I think its more of an issue of people who spend time finding those tracks and weaving them into a set in an interesting way being kind of appalled when something like Aftermath is used as an opening track, followed by fluff. The noobs on the dance floor used to the ASOT norm might by like "OMG wow armin is so diverse" but the guys who have been already hammering these tunes for the last year just shake their head. It's making good tracks sound bad. |
