| DeEssers make your tracks sound bigger. |

| deEssers are really for vocal tracks, they take the siblance out of the vocals (i.e. the hard "s" sounds) |

| yea de-essers are mostly used on vocals. a de-esser is a compressor that works in the high frequencies to de-ess (d'oh) the vocals :) S-sounds, which mostly lies around 6-7 kHz, are often very distinct in vocal recordings, thus you want to lower them to make the digital audio easy on the ears. |

Technically, it just compresses the amplitude of sibilants, so "thhh" is left at the volume it's always at. It's not a very loud sound as far as human mouth sounds go. |

I have noticed alot of volcalist's "sytles" emphasize the "ssssss"
I guess an Esser would be used in this case? lol |

They probably forgot to turn on the DeEsser on their channel strip. Or something. Or maybe they like hissy vocals.
I dunno. :clown: |

Royksopp - Remind Me (James Zabiela's Ingeborg Mix)
example of well used hissy vocals...
using de-essers is depending on the nature of the track, sometimes you'll just want to keep them hissy or even enhance that "hissy-ness" |
