RBC, 09.03.2007, Moscow 13:09:20.The section on human rights in Russia of the US State Department's Annual Country Report on Human Rights Practices is subjective, politicized and mainly confrontational, Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry's representative Mikhail Kamynin told journalists today. He pointed out that the text of the report was compiled with the aim of forming a negative opinion in the reader's mind. Kamynin added that the facts in the report were out-dated and the sources of information were biased. He said that some parts of the annual report were indeed taken from the Russian human rights commissioner Vladimir Lukin's report on the situation in the country.
Kamynin pointed out that Russia has explained its position on the matter to the US State Department. However, it has not been taken into consideration. However, he also said that Russia was open for talks on the subject of human rights with all countries. |

| It's the same with a lot of countries. The US doesn't do a proper investigation and report half-truths and assumptions in it's report. What they don't understand is that this propagation of inaccurate information damages alot of countries images. We had the same negative response to their 'evaluation' of our country. They portray us as being the 'big satan' per se against the haitians. It hurts our countries image, and consequently investment and tourism. It's incredible annoying. |
