Hybrid @ Avalon Review

Awesome.....
So last night was the first time I saw Hybrid live for the first time. Their dj shows are great but was curious about their live performance. Sound was a little meaty at times, female singer was inaudible at times but when she sang, If I Survive, her voice carried well.
Peter Distefano (guitarist) did a good job and started the set bowing the electric guitar with a violin bow, That was pretty cool to hear but again, guitar was't all that clear throughout the times. The two songs that went off the best were Just For Today but especially Until Tomorrow. The male singer did that song well.
Mike and Chris seemed to enjoy themselves and I did too. I still prefer their dj sets since they're longer (this show was only 1 1/2 hr) and more energetic but this show was well worth my time. Only wish I went to Coachella and saw the live strings, oh well. |

Wasn't so much a fan of Hybrid's live set. Live band mode just didn't do it for me, and they kept resorting to ambient, wishy-washy synths every couple songs.
The opener, Kazell, killed it (Schatsi - Dead End <--ch00n) with his driving 130 bpm progressive house. Darren Plaslaiko in the Honey Lounge also killed it with some evil techno. I went nuts when he dropped Holden - Lump.
On the Terrace, one of the Droog DJs (the short, stocky one) put together a good set, imo. He had everybody with him for a while there...
Didn't catch much of Max Graham, but I was there when he mashed up Lucky Heather with some white diva vocal track. Then he saved a Lucky Heather loop and dropped it back in the mix 10 minutes later...compliments of Ableton Live, I think... |

| i had fun, i thought hybrid were excellent but like the original post... you couldnt hear some of the elements at times(especially the female vocal). kazell was excellent as usual and i didnt stick arround long for max graham STUPID TIME CHANGE! |

Actually, Avalon, thier PR and Hybrid bugged me to come take pics, so I did come over for thier set to take pics. I took 500 pics, so I have a bunch to go through. Won't put a gallery up, but hopefully by mid-week, Hybrid should have a best of selection on thier website! |

| Live band was really cool, Hybrid is great. 4 Triton keyboards, drummer, electric, vocals... kinda like rock EDM which is nice for a change. Then they played Unfinished Symphony wooooooo :) |
