Question about a certain sound

Ive been recently trying to make up my own trance/techno using FL 7 and my microkorg synth. My question is how do you make a wave kind of sound, like Tiesto used in Search of Sunrise 5 with the opening song "Malibu Beach". Did he actually go out and record that, or can you make that sound on something like FL?

Easiest way would probably be to find a sample, rather than synthesize it.

ok cool, but can you actually make that sound without finding a sample?
distant
Yeah, probably. I don't produce, but I imagine you can find a synth that could function as a noise generator, and put together a bunch of them to get that "wave" sound.

alright cool, thanks for the info!

Wrong forum.

Anyways, creating it with synths you're looking at white noise with low pass filters opening and closing, reverb and delay to add depth. But it will take work to get it sounding convincing though, espesh if you want "splashes" of water against the rocks.

Got a PS2? Turn it on with no disk, you'll be taken to the browser, and with it an endless loop of wave noise, also digital out for max quality, I recorded it on my minidisk using digital out, it's crisp clear. ;)

That's some creative thinking there, neat.

rofl thats so badass man! Thanks for the suggestion. I def. sometime want to try and attempt to do that. thats just sooo cool! But, do you think Tiesto made his own wave sounds, or did he just record it from something?

Let's just say tiesto is a big PS2 fan.

lol arlight. O and one more question. Can I make that sound using FL 7?

Yep, very simply, try this:

- Load up 3osc.

- Turn down the volume on the bottom 2 oscillators.

- Select the white noise wave form on the top oscillator.

- Right click on the 3osc tab and open up piano roll, place a long note in there (say 16 bars long.)

- Click the 3osc tab and then on the synth click the INS tab near the top, this will take you to the filter section of the synth.

- Leave it on FastLP, and increase the Res to about the 9 O'clock position.

- Right click on the Cutoff knob, and click on automation or something (can't quite remember the option) either way you'll come to a screen where you can draw a graph like pattern using left click for freehand or right click for more linear patterns.

- Construct a pattern here and press play, with a bit of messing about you'll get the whoosh like effect of the ocean. May take a bit of playing around and you may need to add reverb and other effects to get the desired result, but sampling is still the best method for this imo.

Also if you want and don't have a ps2, just check out bookstores for those mind bendingly boring relaxation cd's "sounds of the sea" or "rain forest storm". They might be naff on their own, but what you have for about £10 is a proffessionally recorded library of effects that would work brilliantly in trance.

Hope this helps.

hell ya man that helps a whole lot! Thanks for the help. Thats just so cool that you can do like that!
