| I tend to like DJ's that never play their productions more than those that play them in surplus. |

that is a valid point to not want to see one dj playing strictly ONLY their stuff. i'm not saying i want them to play only their stuff and nothing else. it's nice to hear some other music and it's nice hearing the djs incorporate their styles of music with other tracks from other artists. it's good their supporting ther fellow djs and styles and tracks they and the listeners like. i think it's important to mix and match but not stray too far from styles in that current set/tracklist.
i'd just like to see something like this:
1. DJ A - track A
2. DJ A - track B
3. other dj
4. other dj
5. other dj
6. DJ A - track C
7. other dj - (DJ A remix)
8. other dj
9. DJ A - track D
10. other DJ - (DJ A remix)
11. DJ A - track E
not DJ A playing two tracks of his out of 11, and/or playing too many different styles that don't match with the set that is being played.
maybe i'm just being overzealous about my favorite djs playing more of their songs because i want to hear them in the club when they are present.
demoted, i could listen to a full set of markus schulz only with no problems, lmao. |
that's one horrible set right there. you really don't seem to understand the point of a dj. dj is a dj, not a producer. producer is the one who produces music. dj is the one who plays other people's music. you don't like djs. you like producers. you'd like to listen to producers, not djs. therefore i suggest you find yourself some other genre, like rock. or then limit yourself to electronic music live acts which are few and far between.
you really should understand the point of a dj and the difference between a dj and a producer. |

Bollocks, there's nothing wrong with going to see a DJ because you like their productions. |

i really can't see the problem here.. there's loads of djs that already play a bunch of their own productions at most of their gigs. some do it for promotion, some others do it because they can't find enough music by other people they actually like, others just do it cos they like to see people enjoying something they made. it's just one of those things that will always happen
but like most others say in this thread, the dj shouldn't ever feel obliged to do it just to keep people happy, the same as they should never feel obliged to fulfill requests. you're paying to hear them play what the hell they like |

this is true, mainly because 90% of the time they'll play roughly the same style as they produce. but at the same time it's a bit lame to automatically expect them to drop the tunes you know them for |

If they have so much trouble finding a variety of good music, then why are they DJing? |

well... we all have our opinions. obviously me is different than yours, but i'm not going to stomp and harp on your opinion because it differs.
i listen to a lot of other genres but i'm not going to stop listening to edm because of tracklistings (how closeminded and ridiculous would that be?). and no i will not limit myself... i wll listen to as many musicians and djs as possible, thank you. i never said i hated the sets (if that were the case, i would stop attending the shows). i never said i don't like djs, and i never said i love producers more than djs.
thanks so much for your "suggestion" though. |

Seriousely, I never understood why people expect to have DJs play certain tunes. What's the point of paying for expensive equipment and for a guy to stand behind it for five hours when you could just put on a pop hits CD and get the same result? |

| i def think that dj's shouldn't just spin their own songs the entire set. As said before it seems kind of bland and uninteresting. Like maybe 4 or 5 max depending how long the set is but an entire set just seems boring for me. |
