back when i didnt have caller id, if i ever got a telemarketer, the only thing id tell them was just

they didnt usually want to talk too much after that :wtf:

On my cell, I don't answer any numbers that I don't recognize. I do answer private calls, because for some reason my home phone shows up as private. We don't have caller ID on our home phone. I don't have a problem answering it because we're on that government do not call list or whatever. It works nicely.

NICE!! I should try that. I remember we used to say, " Do you speak French?" ( in French ) and if there was more than a 5 second pause we'd hang up.

after conducting research where we have to call people up on the phone at random times I ahve become more sympathetic to telemarketers. now I dont scream at them when they call. I just hang up :)

As a tip to all of you...

I used to work for a telemarketing company (yes, I know... I hang my head in shame).

Anyway, they BY LAW HAVE TO remove your phone number from their calling list if you specifically request it.

So next time a marketer calls, ask for the company that they are calling from, and then say "remove me from your list". It always helps to mention that if they do not remove you, you will take legal action against their company. Usually does the trick.

Often times they don't. We get calls for a Sue Bartlett, who has never even been to this address before. It's always from the same solicitor. I've asked multiple times from the telemarketers and their supervisors that they remove our number from their list. They've said sure, yet the calls still continue. It's got to the point where I've had to tell them, "Listen, I've told you time and ing again. She doesn't ing live here, never ing has. Take us off of the damn list," to which they reply, "I'm sorry sir, I didn't know, bla bla bla."

I've yet to get one on my cell phone.

My friend's dad used to mess with them a few years ago. He'd tell them he was so glad they called, 'cuz he was in dire straits & really needed money & wanted to know if they could help him. Waste of time, IMO, but they never called back.

i used to know someone that would always talk about murdering their parents and have someone screaming in the background. needless to say they never call back.

Been getting quite a few lately, almost all of them from India.

The last one I convinced that I was only 17 and "Do you have any idea how much trouble you can get in trying to sell stuff to a minor?!!" and he hung up straight away.

Another one last week was doing a 'survey' and asking me all these questions like how much money do I make, do I own my own house etc. When he asked my occupation I told him I was a hitman. I let that sink in for a couple of seconds before asking him not to ever call back.

none so far, but once in awhile i would get a call from someone not in my phonebook at 5/6 am. i just put it on silence, and go back to sleep and dont even call back to see wasup. again if it was important, they would have left a vmail, txt msg, or a call back later.

but usually i answer unknown calls.
