Marijuana laws (pg. 2)

The top three things that bother me the most about these stupid laws are:

1) Putting law-abiding tax-paying non-violent people in jail for possession of marijuana with REAL CRIMINALS who KILL people and/or commit other serious crimes. And we pay for all this.

2) Banning marijuana, a herb, which does not kill or cause cancers etc. but alcohol and tobacco are perfectly legal.

3) Illegal marijuana feeds gangs, mafia, crime syndicates. If legalized, these bricks will decline.

There's more points I have on this, but right now I have very busy studying. Oh, btw, I have never done any drugs but I am all for legalization of marijuana because I believe that this is a political viewpoint and people who smoke weed are not criminals. And people are not smoking any less marijuana as a result. Just like Prohibition ffailed. So much wasted money trying to stop this, that other sectors need. USA has open borders, for instance.

I don't think there are any valid arguments to sustain current US laws on drug's. They are ineffective, they are hurtful for the addicted amongst the population and there are already many examples of better ways to curb drug use (and thus drug trafficking) already in place.

They wouldn't decrease crime. Seeing as to how marijuana is a gateway drug:rolleyes:

Wrong. Marijuand being a gateway drug is a common misconception. Many studies have shown that users that start with marijuana have no more proclivity to start using other drug users or the general population. Data shows that there is a tendency for users of harder drugs to also use marijuana. Theory is they use it to reduce withdrawal effects from other drugs, such as nausea, vomiting, convulsions, etc..

I am also annoyed by the attitude that drugs are bad in general.

How do you think these gangs make their living? Selling illegal drugs, guns, whatever. If marijuana is legalized, it will drop in price because there will be no restrictions on the travel of the goods. Plus imagine all the money saved from the failed war on drugs that can be put into education or health care for all I know. Or into teaching people about the drugs.

Legalizing marijuana is a lot like legalizing prostitution - prostitutes will be better protected, will follow proper rules, pay taxes, etc. because people will continue using their services. At least making it safer, secure and protecting the people will free up a lot of wasted money on other more important things. People who are against legalizing prostitution are just jealous because they don't get laid enough and dont want others to get laid.

yeah, people should be able to put whatever they like in their bodies, and they should have the right to purchase it *safely* and of high *quality*.

People should also be properly educated on the substances they put into their bodies, as well as in moderation.

The real crimes, like stealing, murder, kidnapping, rape, money laundering, etc, can be properly punishable with harsher penalties.

Before drugs became illegal, there was only minimal misdemeanors related to drug use.. now, as a result of prohibition, we've created the criminal underground, and forced it to be a vicious self-perpetuating cycle.

Well I hate to break it to you but a few yrs ago I got Meningitis and was given MASSIVE DOSES of drugs to help with the pain, just short of putting me into a near coma state for a week. After getting released I was given a bottle of OXY's for the headaches and was eatting handfulls per/day and yet still had blinding headaches- finally I had my wife get hold of a couple friends who then came over with bags of buds for me to try.

Well a couple bonghits and no more headaches! the bottle of oxy's went down the toilet and I told my doctor what I had done and he had no problems with it, it (pot) worked and yet left me in a state where I could function unlike the oxy's.

Funny thing was I lost my job after going back 6wks later and failed a drugtest(pot), oh well I was still alive.

The day I was a put into Shands Hospital there was 3 of us with Meningitis, 1 died within 30hrs.
