I think the US is heading for a major depression. Like someone mentioned earlier, the housing market drives a good portion fo the economy...housing market is inflated, decent jobs are leaving the US and in place are crappy jobs. Most people are in debt to the hilt. HIgh debt, low wage = bankruptcy.
Gas prices will continue to rise, imports will continue to increase in cost, while exports are on the decline. Even tech support jobs are being outsourced. The fast food sector can't support everyone forever. Give it ten years at most. The bubble will burst. There aren't devices in place to correct these problems because these problems, globalization, oil shortage, and outsourcing of jobs, are entirely new.
