MOSCOW, March 15 (RIA Novosti) - The former second wife of Russia's richest man, Roman Abramovich, will receive $300 million of his $18.7-billion fortune and full support for their five children after the 16-year marriage ended in divorce.
The news overturned media expectations in October, when the first reports of a possible divorce between the two London residents appeared in the British press, that Irina Malandina, 39, would receive $5 billion.
The divorce was announced late Wednesday in a joint statement by the couple. The divorce procedure took place in Russia last month, much to the advantage of the businessman, as he would have faced ceding half of his fortune to his wife under British law.
Abramovich's spokesman has said the tycoon's corporate interests had been unaffected.
Abramovich, 40, whom the U.S. magazine Forbes has ranked the world's sixteenth richest man, met Irina, then a stewardess for Russia's Aeroflot air carrier, in 1990 while he was still married to his first wife.
They married in 1991, and moved to London's prestigious Belgravia district in 2003 after Abramovich acquired the Chelsea soccer club.
Abramovich's acquaintances have told Russia's respected business daily Vedomosti that the sum for Irina includes the value of property she will receive, including a house in Britain, a house near Moscow, a ship and an airplane.
According to the newspaper The Daily Mail, the main reason for the split may have been Abramovich's close relationship with a young Russian woman, Darya Zhukova, 25, a homeopath and daughter of another Russian businessman.
The two have allegedly been spending a great deal of time together, and the Sun tabloid has said they were last seen together in Paris earlier this week. Abramovich himself has denied any romantic connection to the former model. |

LOL ... yeah, Abramovich's ex-wife is a very nice lady, not greedy it seems. I think Abramovich got really lucky here. Anyhow, I dont really care unless Abramovich gives me some money ... but I do like what he did as a politician as a governor of Russian region Chukotka. For that and some other stuff, he is one of the better Russian rich guys. |
