Wow, incredible. Not in the sick disturbing kinda way but I mean to be able to witness that ( maybe as a nursing student it's more intensified ) but I think it's "cool" maybe not "ZOMG DUDE AWESOME I SAW SOMEONE DIE" kinda way but if you witness life begin (aka baby delivery )and are able to witness the end, I think it beings a whole new view and perspective on things.

I was present for the last 15 minutes of my Grandmas death. It was shocking in terms that aren't really definable you know? To know that these are literally the LAST 15 minutes of someones life ( well we didn't know it would be 15 but that's how long it was ) that you are witnessing is intense. I didn't cry until after she was gone. I think it 's important to stay strong for that person that is dying, besides she wouldn't have wanted everyone sobbing for her last moments on earth ya know? It's hurtful, surreal, horrible yet satisfying to know that she wouldn't be suffering anymore.

Would I want to do that all over again? No.

It's unbelievable, one minute they're walking accross the street eating a sandwich, next minute they're completely lifeless.

death is a wondrous event that happens to everyone.. it's just a matter of time before we all experience it one way or another.

you did indeed make it sound cool

I think I wanna do a video art piece featuring peoples last minutes on earth...

That would cause quite a riot in the art world :p

No, it wasn't a trauma patient. Just old age. The bleeding isn't typical...it only happened because there was bowel obstruction. It wasn't coming out fast or anything either. The patient was given injections of this stuff to dry out her insides, so it was more like a slooooow leak.

No, she didn't poop herself, lol.

And yeah, I agree it's probably much different having an emotional attachment.

I think what makes it such a big deal is the whole spiritual symbolism of dying. Having that in the back of my mind while watching the physical reality of it was really...I dunno...special?

Look how the Egyptians fussed over their dead...that's what I kept thinking about. How this person was being given EVERY measure to ensure she made it safely through the (what I think is) the most important time of her life...it's just so huge.

Uh yeah, I'm not uncomfortable with it in the least. I'm just sharing my experience because I thought it was cool (in a med student way).

And you never know, maybe it can help demystify it for some people.
