hi.....ok this might be just how it is but i have several tracks (which i will post when they are finished) that have this wierd lag in the bass only when i play the track with a subwoofer.
do i need to do something to the kick or the bass? i think im just missing something.....this only happens when using a sub, it doesnt happen with just my monitors. So isnt it just something normal that happens with the sub?
THANK YOU for any help.....appreciated. |

Low frequency sound waves last longer, this is why they feel slower. Dont ask me about the physical stuff behind this, you just have to know it. So yeh, the bass "lag" is nothing unusual I guess. |

Is it happening on your tracks only or on every track you listen to? If it's just on yours, you might be overcompressing your kicks and creating tails on them. |

the sub is just able to reproduce the frequencies that the monitors cannot. so the deeper lows from the kick are being heared. thing is, it is probably the sub being slow responding. you should try the tracks on a few systems before adjusting too much..
id bet money on it being the sub's fault.
you get the same effect when in a car with an underpowered subwoofer. it makes even the best mixed/eq'd tracks sound boomy and horrid. |

Thanks Rich.......i'll test the track out on some other systems before making changes. |

thanks mystical.....So should i just shorten up the length of the kick? the kick is an one hit individual wav sample by the way. |

dont mess with the kick sample. its probably fine. play it through a decent sub and itll be fine. id bet large quantities of money on it. try it on some decent headphones. if it still sounds boomy then adjust it. |

Kick might pitch down slowly, so the bass sound late?
Bring the bass forward a few ticks? |

Ok after listening to the kick that i used, it had a bit of a subby lowend tail, i cut the kick sample a bit just to see how it would sound. I uploaded both versions, check them out. By the way the longer kick version is older and some of the sounds are not finalized but the bassline is the same in both versions.....i think the longer kick mixdown is a bit to phat but i dont know, let me know what u think. Thanks. :)
