What a pile of crap. Movies cost more to produce than video games, yet I didn't see any DvD's for $60

if youre really as smart as you say, why are you posting this kind of ? you dismiss a decent article for no reason, then explain your dismissal with fallacious evidence.

I don't remember saying that:conf:
But it's very very true indeed.
thank you omega_pill. Errrr blue

now PKCraistlin :

fact #1 Movies cost more than video games to produce.
fact #2 movies on DvD don't cost $60

I dismissed this article since games developers have been saying for 25 years they would drop the price of video games. And the prices have gone up for whatever reason (new technology, new Fx chips, production costs, etc).
Ms pacman did cost me $60 20 years ago. Yet the next metalgearsolid is going to be, sadly as usual, close to a $100. What's that ? production costs ?

What I think is, as long as people will be ready to queue up and even camp days ahead for any new release, software or hardware, prices will remain the same.

bingo.

it's called supply and demand

Well sometimes I get a $60 game with 2 large pizzas for $30. I guess everyone hates pizza hutt.

Maybe if the distributors didn't pocket a majority of the profits, then there would be more for the developers to get.

$100 for a game is a joke, no matter how much crap they feed you about distribution and development costs.

There is room to reduce the price, but the developers have no say in it. It's the ones that are selling their games that are too greedy and refuse to take a smaller share of the profits.

Do gamers shell out 70 million the first weekend a game is out to, to watch it? And then Shell out more money when it comes on dvd?

You have a semi valid argument... but you forgot the biggest thing with movies.... that they play in a theatre.
pkcRAISTLIN
the simple fact is more people view movies (in cinema or on DVD) than play large amounts of video games. supply and demand.

i dont have a problem with prices, it just means im selective of which ones i buy. but im more than happy to shell out $100 AU for a game that i love. to say something isnt "worth" that $100 is belied by the fact that people are obviously willing to pay that much, therefore they obviously are worth it.

ultimately i am of the opinion that the article in this thread represents a more accurate view than some opinionates in here shooting their mouth off.

true. My point was that you cannot rely only on production costs to justify a $60(even sometimes 100) price tag.
Movies might be the closest thing to compare with. A few differences of course. Don't forget that the gaming industry also makes money with hardware and accessories, etc.

In the end, $60 or more for a game is disgraceful in my opinion, and 100% unjustified. I'd rather wait, to get better deals. Saw Doom3 the other day for £3. And that gives me as much fun as any brand new $60 game.

maybe, but I didn't use the word "cretin", as it doesn't make me more accurate.

Of course, you can spend your money as you like. So the more people are ready to spend, the more it is worth?... Hmmmm, I missed the point here.

How much your precious worthy $100 game will be worth in ten years ?
See you there.
