so i decided to make a track, i am still VERY new to production, and pretty crap so far... i need some constructive help/pointers to make my buildup sound a little better... in all honesty i think it's totally ... wot sounds need removing, adding etc - my "drumrolls" are lame (i actually used kicks instead of snares but i think i better change that lol) - wot kind of automation needs to be applied to the sounds in there?

i used FL Studio 5 or 6 i think for this

>> Lame Build Up <<

i think the main kick i used is pretty nice, built it from samples i had on my computer - just not sure about the rest lol... the lead i have made for it can be found following the below link:

I can't say much besides try listening to more music and analyze it to understand what actually goes on in a track. It will give you a better guideline than what most of us say anyways. This is one of your first tunes I'm assuming as well so just keep cranking out tracks and you'll get better in due time.

IMO though, I'd get rid of that reverse cymbal that goes throughout the end of the track.

your greatest ally is practice, eventually you will find the path to enlightenment, but only if you seek it actively.

yea practice and copy other tracks in your learning process. keep your old tracks to compare to your new ones.

The lead sound is good, in a way, the progression is rubbish. I could play you what i think you want on a keyboard in 5 seconds but i don't know that I can describe it... You need to shorten the first chord to 2 measures second chord to 2 measure third should be 2 as well, then the fourth chord should be one measure and change it to a major chord... Sorry thats really unclear but I can't show you.

In terms of drums: you sound like me just a little while ago :D LOL my advice, for what it counts for, is to either use the typical trance formula (we all know what it is, come on repeat after me:rolleyes: ) The four to the floor kick then the hat on the off beat and the snare on the second or fourth:toothless

Alternatively, if you actually want to be original, use the standard formula (as above) as a working loop then finish the track and go back and re record the drums on a keyboard, quantise it, rock the house. With a lead sound like that you'll have all the epic trance freaks with their hands in the air lol:p
