You know when people walk up to you and begin commenting on something completely unnecessary and obvious, to the point of obnoxiousness? Like when you're hammering something and they come up to you and are like, "so, hammering something?". those people.
Maybe everyone does it occasionally, but there are some people whose only vehicle for engaging conversation is to remark on whatever is right the in front of them at the moment. And silently staring at them in response never seems to help things.

Yeah, I hear ya. That goes along the lines of when you first meet someone they ask "so where do you work"? It's like, can't you ask me how the my day went or how am I feeling. Tell a joke, but don't start off with status quo as your first question so you can judge me.
But my biggest pet peeve is when my g.f washes dishes and put the rack that drains the water on the cabinet with a towel underneath it then washes the dishes and puts the soapy ones on the damn sink bed then rinses them all at once (leads to soapy dishes) then puts then on the drain rack. I put the thing that holds the dishes on one side of the sink and the drainer on the other side. I feel up the water only so high so that I can rinse each item one at a time at put them in the dish rack clean and rinsed. And please don't talk about water conservation, because here in San Antonio we have a beautiful thing called the 'Edwards Aquifer which rarely ever goes down in volume.
Oh and I hate when she moves my stuff around and then I can't find it. I think it's out of revenge sometimes.

My biggest peeve is when someone exhibits traits or interests in various things, not reduced to one type or group, people will overlook the elements that are similar to them, using them to connect, and instead focus on the differences and distance themselves. I understand why it happens, but it still irks me.

There are certain types of people that irritate me. If you are a stable person with an emotional basis, out of here. A ing oak tree is smarter and with more purpose than you.
Do drugs, live that one life you are given, float around in the "i don't give a cloud".
