Well, on my endeavors today to find more ways to crank out of my outdated computer, i was looking to see if there was any guide on overclocking the SPU on my glorious Creative Audigy ZS2. Unfortunately, I came up short.
If we look at the creative website, we can see the last show of support for the Audigy2 line from Creative was back about a million years ago in 2004.

However, I did find many guides titled: "How to softmod your Audigy2 into an Audigy 4"
Now this is a softmod, so all that will be changed is software, so don't expect to put a huge heatsync on the SPU or change the voltage to your card to get the ultimate audible experience. This is just meant to update your outdated drivers to Audigy4 standards. Not to mention, the drivers in the guide are linked to the Audigy-4 Pro. So, :)
Now, i just did the softmod, took about 10 minutes (installation time, download time is LONG). The audio is definitely louder and clearer. I just have to wait and see wether it cracks under extended use (memory leaks, who knows), although the guide does mention that the softmod cuts all the crap out of the official drivers and it less strenuous on system resources :).

Follow the guide, pretty straight forward.
notes (NOT INSTRUCTIONS! Please follow instruction step by step, but refer to these notes!):
1. The Driver CD ISO is neccessary for the install, and it is about 200 megs, so be forewarned.
2. To extract the ".7z" file, use either WinRAR or 7Z. FREE (and better than winzip):)
3a Upon extraction, either burn the .iso file (it would be under popular burner (NERO, etc) options as "burn image". Or set up a virtual drive and mount the .iso file (insanely EASY, l337, and a timesaver in the future) using popular FREE software such as Daemon Tools or Alchohol 120%
3b IN MY EXPERIENCE of this softmod, i never encountered an ISO within the 7z file. I found all the disc automatically spread out and ready for installtion. I dunno, perhaps a recent WinXP update automatically mounts all ISO files. who knows
4. the file you want to run if 3b happens to you is: ~/CTRun/Start.exe
5. DON'T REGISTER WITH CREATIVE UPON RESTART.
6. Creative Audio Console does install, but it rarely works. who cares.

so anyways, have fun!

whoa awesome.

Please let us know of any issues if you run into them.

I got my 2ZS a while ago, and I absolutely love it. The only problem I have is, when I turn the system volume up above half way, I can hear some distortion in the highs. Obviously it is counter acted by turning down the system volume, and turning up the speakers.

I am really interested in the volume boost part.

couple of days in. So far, everything working like day1, no memory leaks, errors, or crashes.
Listening to Nine Inch Nails/The Prodigy
sounds A-OK! :)

I have the ZS2 Platinum Pro card. What would softmoding to a Audigy 4 get me? Better sound, better latency, what exactly?
