Thump on last beat of loop (sometimes!)

Ok, I'm using Reason rewired into Ableton Live 6. I have a drumbeat pattern set-up in Redrum. And I CANNOT figure out what the deal is, but when I've got something looped (I set a parameter in Ableton and select loop) sometimes the last beat on the loop hits two or three times harder than it should. Other times it doesn't (with the same loop parameter).

The beat is playing in Redrum. I've had this problem for awhile and used to think that it was only when I was moving stuff around on other tracks that it would happen - but that's not the case. It happens sometimes if I'm not doing anything. It makes is freaking impossible (!) to focus on a synth when a loop is playing and BOOM - one kick hits three times harder than it should. And I can't imagine it is good for my monitors.

Please help!

do you have a compressor on the kick? Sometimes this will happen. Try to change your attack and release settins.

I don't have a compressor on the track. Using Redrum, I don't know if I can adjust the attack. The kick that slamming really hard is on Channel 1, so I've got tone (and vel), level (and vel), and length (and vel switch). I could try adjusting the length I guess... shorten it up... will let you know how that works.

If there are any other ideas, please let me know...

Have you tried reloading the loop on another channel and replicating the issue?
Ray_Chappell
Ok - I've tried switching channels, didn't work. Even tried completely eliminating the kick, but I realized everything is hitting really hard - so when that is muted, the high hats slam really hard.

Anyone have any other suggestions, please?! This is making it impossible to loop a beat and throw additional tracks on.

And I just tried completely deleting the Redrum machine and creating a new one, recreating the patter and still have the same problem. For the love of God... ARGH!!!

hmm, i remember this happend to me too when i rewired reason and live. It was along time ago, so i dont really remember what to do to solve the problem. I remember it was a bug and it could be solved in one way. Try to search around, it has been asked here before.

Are you sequencing the drums in Ableton and still running Redrum's pattern sequencer? If so that can cause the drums to double up. Un-check the 'Enable Pattern Selection' option next to Redrum's pattern palette, and see if that helps.
Ray_Chappell
When I uncheck that box it won't run the drum machine - because I'm just wanting to play the pattern from the drum machine.

So, I recorded the loop as audio, unchecked the pattern button and it works fine. So, I guess I need to record the drum track as audio to play it in loops as I'm buildig the rest of the arrangment, then when I'm ready to automate the drum machine for the whole track, I'll just re-record it.

Thanks aquila! If anyone has any ideas on how I can play the pattern without having to re-record it as audio all the time it'd be helpful. This will work for now though. Appreciate your help.

Well I guess that way would work, but it doesn't fix the source of the problem.

I'll have a thinking session today and see if I can figure it out for you.
