So, I heard a live performance by one of my friends who goes by "Fast Unicorn" - he plays in a synthesizer band. He played this track called 'unconditioner' and I was really taken away by the emotional way in which he manipulated the synthesizers and created this soundscape. I asked him for the track so I could play it at my next gig. The original is a progressive, breakbeat track and I was not really happy with the percussion or arrangement, and being inspired by the track I decided to remix it into my own style so I could play later in one of my DJ sets, which tend to be deep, dark, progressive, techy and often tribal.

I'm reviewing while listening.
Sounds professional.
The kick lacks some mids. Boost that up a bit or replace the kick.
Nice fxes and percussions.
The bass is a bit unclear, bring it upfront.
The fx at 1:32 is really loud comparing to the rest of the track.
The clap works nice in the mix.
4:00 and nothing really interesting happens. You need more variation in this track.
Nice subtle change but still nothing too interesting.
I like the atmosphere though...
The outro is cool.
Although this track lacks variation it's still a cool track to play as a warm up track for a set so it's a keeper for me.
Just fix the things I told you.
7.5/10,
Omer
p.s.
I'd appreciate if you'll listen to my tracks and give a review. |

Hey, thanks for listening.
I just did the second draft of the track in the studio, probably a lot of things you mentioned have been looked at. I also was able to do some more accurate 'mastering' on the track with the mackie monitor setup instead of my headphones :p
I'm going to upload the newest version soon, which I think you'll like much more.
regarding, nothing interesting happening - I sort of meant this as a dark atmospheric track, not really a melodic track. In the near future I may make a second remix which is more 'happening', but this one will be dark and dubby. |

It doesnt even need much more variation, just more subtlety :p making a track like this tough because you want it to be deepy and groovy but you also have to keep people entertained, i think adding more small perc changes, smaller variations to the melody, possibly some dynamic effects you could take it to a new level.
cant comment on sound because im in a ing sound reflection box lol i will check it out at home, but from what i get on these monitors it's good in terms of sound, at least the mixdown seems fairly good aside from a few volume issues here and there.
cool |

That's exactly what I meant.
I didn't mean that you need to make this melodic or "happening".
It's just that there are not so much stuff going on at all in this track.

Right off the bat i dont like whatever is doing ALL the panning... seems a little too much imo... and then it just keeps panning and panning and panning and panning....
i dunno, it's still lacking something major, but I cant put my finger on what it is. some of effects you used are good but i dont know it hasnt gone to that next level
oh and that crash sample you have in there sounds really out of place well.
keep pushing this. |

haha totally right - that crash is a bit ian van dahl or something...thanks for making it stick out to me
panning is in the original sound file i received from the artist, so ill have to do something clever to fix it and make it sound ok, but agreed it's a bit much
i feel that the track is a bit conservative and doesn't push the concept enough to be memorable, and therefore is a bit lackluster, but solid nonetheless. i need to back off of it for a while and then come back to it fresh |

The track as it is now is very forgettable.
Vocals can do a good trick with it.

yeah
i always feel like there's a fine line between vocals or melody or something major and a gimmick. at this point i'm not sure i'm particularly inspired in order to come out on the better side of that line. the original plan was to have some sort of vocal that transforms out of the synth but i haven't recorded anything, maybe that's a possible future direction. maybe two voices and some sort of duet situation later in the track
thanks for your help - i think i am going to let it rest for a while and work on some other things for now. |

i think i'll just leave it here for a while - it's at the point where i can play it and i am going to give it a spin on friday
my time would be better spent making original music so probably won't change this much from where it is now |
