If you have it forced, that's very likely the problem. Not everybody has encryption-capable clients.
Just enable it, don't force it. |

| i am on a freshly installed xp and just grabbed ABC torrent client last night. i am currently using port 1720. it is forwarded on my router but i still get extremely ty download speeds and next to nil for upload. am i using the right port? i also dont see any option for encryption in my client. |

I don't know about ABC, but I'm using Azeureus on my Mac, and it recommends that my port is between:
40000 - 65000
So maybe you try somewhere in there. |

| Jay dont use ABC use Azureus. it is much better client and when u download it, it will automatically adjust to your settings. use a higher port number. something in 50000 series. |

I think i first used ABC.
But have then starting using Bitcomet, Azureus and uTorrent.
I found uTorrent and Azureus the best. All of them can be download free on their site by googling them. |

Port 1720 is a VoIP port. This port used to work like a charm until ISP's got smarter and started throttling torrent traffic over this specific port. Providing your home network & BT client software are setup properly, I can almost guarantee the slow downs are torrent traffic shaping software which your ISP has implemented within its routers.
There are obviously a lot of public torrent sites out there but one I would highly reccommend is http://www.midnight-torrents.com. They are all brand new private trackers and even if your ISP throttles upstream torrent traffic you will still get a decent download rate. I hope this helps. |

Srsly! (But recently I've gotten more into full DVDs as opposed to rips).
If any of you are downloading copyright material (which you all are) via torrent sites, make sure you use PeerGuardian 2 (or else you are begging for trouble from your ISP). |

That's illegal!
I only download backups of what I have cause I do not know how to rip them on my PC... :eek:
Or you just download using your neighbours internet connection...works just as well. Lazy rich people who don't know how to encrypt their wireless. I'll teach them a lesson or two! |

thats exactly whats been going on for a few months for me. For a while through the last quarter of last year my upload was maxing out at 64kb/s on good days but all of sudden in January nothing would go consistenlty above 0.1kb/s.
I found a solution for myself though i have to pause and restart my torrents every so often and UT will download but there little to no upload going on, its pretty Fed up.
So i only download select torrents now which kinda sucks ass. Damn torrents :whip: |

Thats why you download the ratio helping torrents. there are always many. I have registered on 4 or 5 different private torrent sites and all of them have known torrents that will be ratio helping. Just keep uploading. If I can upload around 20kps i'm happy.
I have been having ratio problems as well. Luckily I have 2 laptops, just for downloading and uploading, and my other laptop for my day-to-day work. |
